Normally I oppose the "this guy sucks - get someone else!" thing, but in this case I have to wonder if someone like Feagles couldn't at least bring some stability to the punting game.

You don't get it, Masthay REALLY sucks. It's not the same thing....

Oh, I get it. That's why I'm going against my normal instincts and agreeing. The kid's awful out there. If someone like Feagles is available I'd like them to dump Masthay yesterday.

I just don't understand why it's so tough to punt in GB, though I'm beginning to suspect that this season it starts with "S" and ends with "locum".

McCarthy and Thompson both preach (and, to their credit, practice) continuity. Both are against knee-jerk hirings, firings and signings. But, I think you gotta know when to move on, too. Special teams have been terrible for years. O-line has been terrible for years. How long do you tolerate less-than-mediocrity?

When do we stop with the carousel of players and start addressing the coaching staff.

Yearly we deal with special teams problems and offensive line issues.. yet we never seem to address the guys that coach those positions.

Sure.. get rid of Masthay.. insert another guy.. but when we can't get consistency out of the next.. whom then?

Sooner or later, you take a guy like Ryan, coach him up to deliver the consistency you demanded at the time.. or fix the coaching problem.

We preach consistency and availability from our players.. yet we seemly ignore the root issues.. that is an MM problem at this point. Not addressing the breakdowns upon his staff. IMO of course.

Jeff Feagles anyone?

He's currently retired but if we threw some dollar bills his way, wonder if he'll consider coming out of retirement.

Looking at his very last game played, he punted 7 times for 303 yards and a 43.7 average. That was the final game of last year.

I wonder what shape he's in. Wouldn't mind if we gave him a call and found out. He's kind of known as a spot punter who can put punts in tight spots. Considering how mediocre our STs coverage has been over the past few years, that's something that can help.

He's lost a little bit of his leg strength over the years but hasn't lost his accuracy. I'm more than willing to sacrifice a few yards in distance for a spot that's hard to return punts from.

All for it. Seriously.

Like zombie', I'd be more than happy to sacrifice a few yard per kick to avoid the worst-possible-time shanks and line drives...

I've stopped complaining about punters since Frost.

No one can ever be worse than that guy.

I am glad that someone posted this. I know that things like injury's and the o line draw attention but IMO this is our biggest issue.

lol no way punting is even close to as big an issue as our O problems

As long as Crosby is comfortable kicking, Masthay is going to stay on this roster.

I like him better than Derrick Frost and Jeremy Kapinos.
