Even though it won't show it in the stat sheet, I think Al Harris, Will Blackmon, and Pat Lee all being on IR certainly didn't help the situation tonight.

Porky, excellent post, and gopackgo212, prefect point that I also was trying to make about Crosby. If he makes it, do the steelers onside? Do the packers play for a TD on the final drive?!?

Don't get me wrong, missing a 34 yarder is pathetic, but also not the reason the team lost.

HELL OF A GAME...about as exciting as you'll see in the NLF. Someone had to lose and unfortunately it was us.

next order of business is to pray that the Giants lose, right?

Hopefully now the Packers remember how much they dislike losing, and will be playing winning football for the rest of the year.

The defense looked pretty worn down in the second half. I'm going to look on the bright side and take this game as the last little wake up call before the run for the big dance. This loss will make them better. This game was a playoff game for the steelers and they played like it. You knew after the cleveland loss they were going to be tough and they brought their A game. One more thing, Jarret Bush has gotta go, Ben I'm sure, will be sending him a christmas card.

I am not blaming Crosby for the loss, I am simply saying that he should be making his FGs - thats his job. I understand that not every FG will be made, even amongst the best kickers, but he is missing FGs that are standard. It really aches to see him miss, especially when I have seen him make 60 yard FGs in person during practice.

There are a lot of things that contributed to the loss, but when you miss your 3 points, it changes the game wether on the scoreboard or the atitude of your team.

Let them get down the field with 3 man rushes all day long.

For a show-off between two of the best defenses with two of the best DCs, this looked like a horribly vanilla game.

Especially that last drive. You know their O-line sucks. You know that Ben holds on to it too long. You've been gashed for 20-60 yard gains all day long on 3 man rushes. You'd expect Capers to dial up some damn blitzes and get after Ben.

On some of these plays, you can barely blaim the secondary, as they had to be in coverage way too long, way too often.

I have to agree, though, that Bush did not have a solid game. He had a horrendous one.

Bell looked ok when out there playing. Again, you give the QB half a year in the pocket and he's going to find a hole somewhere. There's very little Bell could do there without getting an illegal contact or defensive PI by the NBA officiating staff.

There were a number of four-man pass rushes on the final drive, as well. That's also how Green Bay got two of their sacks. I don't mind bringing pressure, even on that last drive, but remember that some of the biggest plays in the game were on blitzes. Even if their first play on offense didn't feature a blitz, the effect was the same because Bush was by himself deep. Going into the final possession, I think we can agree that Green Bay was scheming to not give up the big play. On the touchdown itself, it's already been said: great throw and catch.

This stinks and we certainly could have played better, but I feel somewhat validated that we took control at crucial moments. Didn't get the W, I know -- but our last few offensive drives were inspiring.

Reasons why the team lost:
1. 503 yards passing. Give me a break.
2. Nine running plays called the entire game. Give me a break.
3. 35:22 -- Pitt's time of possession.

Crosby is going to get a lot of flack. But Crosby didnt give up the points. Crosby didn't call nine running plays. Crosby didn't give 35+ minutes of possession the Pittsburgh offense.

This was a team fuckup.

Convenient stats there, but put them in perspective. First off, we shut down Pittsburgh's run and they shut down ours. They gained 65 yards on 19 attempts, we had 60 on 12 runs (includes Rodgers' scrambling TD). In a game where both pass offenses were having success, I don't think you can fault the playcalling. If we're guilty of anything it's coming out flat at the beginning of the game.

Pittsburgh's time of possession was helpful, yeah, but until the LAST play it was largely irrelevant. Pitt held the ball for too much of the third quarter, but we added 22 points in the fourth quarter so we made up for it.

It was a close game. We could have done more with scoring opportunities; we certainly could have been better in pass defense. Specifically a missed field goal and big gashing plays against our pass defense hurt the most. Green Bay is typically astute at forcing turnovers, but not tonight (if you don't count that horseshit call on Matthews' sack/strip).

The ending of the game made it a heartbreaker, but for all our failings we were in it until the clock showed no time left.

I don't find it too terribly reassuring that we were "in it" with a team that had lost five in a row.

Then you're probably reading too much into the five straight losses.

The Cowboys beat a team last night that had won 13 in a row. They must be the team to beat now.
