Ochocinco on Henry: "He's going to be missed"
Posted by Michael David Smith on December 17, 2009 12:16 PM ET
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is known as one of the NFL's most jovial players. But he cried in the Bengals' locker room today as he talked to reporters just hours after the death of his friend and teammate, Chris Henry.

"Chris was a very good -- very good -- friend of mine, really extremely close," Ochocinco said. "It's sad to see that it's come to this point. I'd just talked to Chris Tuesday night. He called to see how I was doing."

Ochocinco said he was proud of Henry for turning his life around and shocked at the news yesterday that he had fallen from a pickup truck after a domestic dispute with his fiancee.

"He's been doing everything right," Ochocinco said. "My grandma always said you never really question the man upstairs on a decision he makes because he never makes mistakes. But I don't see how Chris was supposed to go already. Especially because he was on the right path. He's going to be missed."

Ochocinco and Henry became teammates when the Bengals drafted Henry in 2005.

Zero, where in any of that do they say how he changed? Was he doing charitable work in the community? All I see are the same few comments saying he was changed but giving no evidence of it. Showing up for practice on time because you're about to lose your job is not quite the same as getting your life straight because you realize you can't continue on a self-destructive path.

Whether he caused his death by his actions to me is not what this thread was about.
A young man died, and thats sad.

Was he an upstanding guy? Maybe not. But either way, it's a sad thing to have happen.
I will wait to "judge" what happened when the reports all come out.
In the end though, a young man died, and thats sad, whether he was a jerk or not.

Would have been cool if you just added that in your first post WhiskeySam...just saying. Everyone here is right, no one can judge the man and only his teammates/family can speak of him...people who were close to him. Do you have to do visible things in order for change to be seen? Is charity work THE ONE thing a person has to do in order to wipe the slate clean and say you are a good person? The smallest change IS change and maybe showing up and caring about his job was one step in the right direction.

I have been reading comments under the Yahoo articles covering his death and I can't even begin to tell you how sick I became with the ignorance being written by some people. Maybe they were joking, maybe they were serious. Some people just surprise me sometimes and it just left me completely bitter.

Put yourself in these PLAYERS shoes and have your life followed by the media a majority of the time. I'd be scared to see what they dig up on anyone, even myself. Maybe he was making a move towards a more positive life, but why would the media want to follow that when they know TRASH is what the people want.

I went on a rant there and I am sorry. Either way, you are entitled to your opinion as are those ignorant people but to have no sympathy at first for a young man who has made some mistakes in his life...just sad.

Sorry for the crazy post guys.

Sam, i think thats what this whole thing is about. I'm sure we will learn the details at some point. But right now, it's his family i feel sad for.
I wouldn't doubt if he brought it on himself, with his past history. But i don't know at this point why it all happened.
All boiled down though, it's a horrible thing.

I agree with you on that. Feel bad for the survivors. His family, friends, etc.

Me, myself? Not to sound insensitive but I've always felt this way when it comes to athletes and entertainers unless i really enjoy them playing or their performances touched me inside. I didn't know the man, I'm not going to cry for him. He and most athletes out there wont cry for me if it happened to me. Hell, I bet 90% of them wouldn't pay 500 dollars to spare my life if the situation arose somehow. I wish it didn't happen, it sucks, but it doesn't effect me in any way emotionally past that.

Some of you are acting like he was an ex-con. Sure he had some legal problems but nothing bad enough where one can say he deserved to die. The fact that he was still playing in the nfl shows that. Until they find out more about his death, thats how i feel about it.

Chris Henry threatened to kill himself as girlfriend drove off, witness says
Details emerging in accident that killed Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver
By Carrie Whitaker cwhitaker@enquirer.com December 17, 2009

Print this page ShareThis Font size:AA CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In the last conscious moments of Chris Henrys life, the Bengals wide receiver begged the woman who has been credited for helping turn his life around to stop so they could talk or he would kill himself, a witness said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police verify that a domestic dispute jump-started the turn of events that led to fatal injuries Henry sustained after falling from a moving pickup Wednesday. Henry, who had a troubled past, was on medical leave visiting with his fiance Loleini Tongas family when the fight began Wednesday afternoon.

They were to be wed in March.

Tongas neighbor, Lee Hardy, was perched on a 15-foot ladder cutting back some trees when he saw the yellow pickup zooming up the Tongas gravel driveway just a few yards away. Hardy said a shirtless black man clung to the top and side of the truck while standing in the bed, begging her to stop the vehicle.

He was banging on the top, on the doors, screaming at the lady, We need to talk, Hardy said. He said, If you take off, Im going to jump off the truck and kill myself.
Hardy said she stopped, hesitating at the end of the driveway, and took off.

Soon afterward, emergency dispatchers got at least two calls to 911.

EDIT: FREAKY: NOT SURE WHY AARON RODGERS NAME CAME UP WHEN I POSTED THE LINK... I JUST POSTED THE LINK FROM THE SITE I WAS READING FROM.
