McCarthy went conservative and played not to lose.
It was a win despite an epic collapse.

We lost Al and Kampman, leaving us with 4 rookies on the field: Mathews, Jones, Underwood (on dime), and Raji (on some downs). Add to that we had Jared Bush as our nickel/outside CB.
In addition, The 49ers finally opened their playbook and started looking for Crabtree and Davis. Their TD catches were extremely good work on offense (great throws + catches) as opposed to bad D.
The O needs to find its rhythm and put up points in the second half, and the STs need to cover better (again, giving up long return at key point)..... but give the 49ers credit as oppose to blaming Mike McCarthy entirely.
