It's curious that we didn't hear about the 2nd opinion today. Anyone care to speculate on why that may be?

First and foremost, we at The National Football Post are all thinking about and praying for Al Harris, who ruptured his spleen in the game against the Cowboys Sunday night. Al is a longtime friend and wonderful person who I shared a lot of experiences with over the past several years since we traded a draft pick to acquire him from the Eagles. He has spent his career proving doubters and skeptics wrong in becoming a Pro Bowl cornerback. He now is amassing all the information he can about his medical condition from the Packers medical staff and specialists. We all await the results and will report them to our readers with his consent, as we did with the breaking story of his injury. We all hope for the best for Al today.

Someone called into the local Packers radio station yesterday and said Al could be back in four weeks if he has some lacesaceric (not a doctor here people) type surgery done BUT he would be at risk for the rest of his life.

Harris to learn spleen diagnosis on Wednesday

By Rob Demovsky rdemovsk@greenbaypressgazette.com September 23, 2008

Cornerback Al Harris should learn Wednesday whether he will miss the rest of the Green Bay Packers' season because of the torn spleen he sustained in Mondays loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Harris agent, Jack Bechta, said Tuesday the tests done on Harris were sent to two specialists, who were expected to give their diagnoses and recommendations to Harris on Wednesday.

Harris probably either will need surgery or will wait for the spleen to heal. Either way, he likely would miss several months, which almost certainly would keep him out the rest of the season.

Harris, 33, is an 11-year veteran and has played in 83 consecutive regular-season games since joining the Packers in 2003. He has played in 163 consecutive NFL regular-season games.

I hope he doesn't do it, I mean, it would be great to have him back for this season, but some things are more important than football.

Having a risk at something seriously going wrong for the rest of his life, is not something worth taking for playing half a football season imo.

+1.

Couldn't agree more... as much as I would like to see Harris on the field.. that there isn't worth it IMO.

As difficult as the loss of the football game was, the loss of Al Harris is obscenely brutal. I don't want him back if it means any further risk to him in any way. I don't want to speculate on getting a first-round cornerback, either. I think our luck runs towards qb's vs. cb's in the draft, a semi-weird kharmic thing we have going. I say we go get Lito, I think he could step right in nicely. I mean really, Charles is hurting, Tramon is about to get picked upon by every offensive coordinator we play, Lito wants to get paid and doesn't like being "third-fiddle" in Philly, we have a very poor history imo trying to develop cornerbacks, contrasted with a good history aquiring via trade, from someone like, oh, I don't know, Philly. I really feel like taking a wait-and-see approach is going to be a heck of a lot more expensive than we would ever want in w-l department, and possibly in the draft pick for player department as well. I may not know what the heck I'm talking about here, but will say I know I'm scared. Get well, soon Al, and if this is "IT" for you, a million thank-you, thank-you, thank-you's for an extremely fantastic JWD, hopefully better than we will ever know, dependent upon the near future, IMHO.

This is the first thing i have seen from Packers.com about Harris Injury, i dont want to get my hopes high he will be back this season, but McCarthy says he thinks he might come back this season. Good News

Harris out for Sunday
Cornerback Al Harris, who sustained an injury to his spleen in the second quarter against the Cowboys, will not play Sunday against Tampa Bay. McCarthy said the injury is "serious" and the team will take a cautious approach with him and do what is in Harris' best interest.

McCarthy said the team is still gathering information from doctors before they determine a timeline on Harris' return. McCarthy added he is hopeful that Harris will be able to return at some point this season and that there is a "good chance" he will be able to avoid surgery.

Avoiding surgery is a good thing. Once they cut you it's all over.
