I don't think many teams have solid backups at every single position. I do hold Thompson and McCarthy accountable, but I think luck plays a part as well. We'll see how it all works out over the course of a 16-game season. Hopefully a lot better than last year.

The ax I have to grind with Ted and Co in the final makeup in this roster is they didn't protect the areas that had injury concerns coming in.
Bigby - Off season Surgery and wasn't practicing fully most of camp.. Rouse same story, so cut the next guy in line that has experience in the defense this off season for a 'green' players that won't be ready for the field for weeks. Strike one.
Clifton, four surgeries and you set no backup at all.. maybe they didn't feel confident in Meredith.. fine.. but make sure you have that position covered at least one deep, and your starting left guard should not be that fallback. Strike two.
Barbre- First year starter that has been disappointing in previous season, you cover that guy with rookie you will not even activate on game days. Opening night he damn near kills your QB and you have no options in the game to solidify the protection. None. Strike three..
Solidly built ball clubs do not make such mistakes IMO.
I really fail to understand the thinking.. people say Ted doesn't take risks... I say BS, in a lot of ways he takes to many on if roster depth.
