The Packers have been a bit unlucky to suffer injuries to starters at two of the three positions where they could least afford it: left tackle and safety.

On defense alone, you could say that Jenkins, Jolly, Hawk, and Barnett are all injury prone, based on them having missed significant time and/or having played hurt frequently during the past two years--and I have no doubt that if Woodson got hurt and we had a lousy backup a lot of fans would say that they "knew" Woodson was going to get hurt.

I don't think many teams have solid backups at every single position. I do hold Thompson and McCarthy accountable, but I think luck plays a part as well. We'll see how it all works out over the course of a 16-game season. Hopefully a lot better than last year.

We also need some more replacements for Rodgers, Jennings, Jones, Spitz, Wells, and Sitton on offense. They are all pretty injury prone.

Rodgers has never missed time due to injuries. I don't think Jennings has either. I was advocating for another WR to be brought in to test Jones, if you remember. Wells and Sitton I can't comment upon.

he is not my favourite player and i think is nothing so special but when he is in and he is healthy our D performs really well like a tod D...one of that player u need in everytime u can until the season is over an then maybe u can look for a better replacement (...taylor mays????)

I believe Capers is more confident to bring the blitz with Bigby in the game NOT because of what happens if they don't get to the QB but what happens if they RUN the ball.
Bigby is very solid coming up on the run and making plays at the line of scrimmage on run plays. I think Capers was worried about getting caught in blitz packages and not having the hitter and aggressive player Bigby is back there when they get caught blitzing and the offense is running the ball.
I think guys like Bigby and Palamalou or however you spell his name is why Pittsburgh is not afraid to bring it on any play. Good tacklers who can move up and cover an area absent of a LB because they blitzed. If you watch, many of Capers blitzes have one LB lead and another right behind. While those blitzing can take care of the area they are in there is another area WIDE OPEN for a runner to make a big play if you don't have a good, aggressive DB to cover that place on the field.

Bigby - Off season Surgery and wasn't practicing fully most of camp.. Rouse same story, so cut the next guy in line that has experience in the defense this off season for a 'green' players that won't be ready for the field for weeks. Strike one.

Clifton, four surgeries and you set no backup at all.. maybe they didn't feel confident in Meredith.. fine.. but make sure you have that position covered at least one deep, and your starting left guard should not be that fallback. Strike two.

Barbre- First year starter that has been disappointing in previous season, you cover that guy with rookie you will not even activate on game days. Opening night he damn near kills your QB and you have no options in the game to solidify the protection. None. Strike three..

Solidly built ball clubs do not make such mistakes IMO.

I really fail to understand the thinking.. people say Ted doesn't take risks... I say BS, in a lot of ways he takes to many on if roster depth.

I'd also argue that Rodgers missed 1 game where he could have relieved Favre near the end of one of the seasons (maybe 07 again). I don't remember which season it was, but Nall came in to play whilst Rodgers was rehabbing his broken foot or tweaked hamstring and he didn't go.

The book was open on Rodgers coming into the 08's season.. I think he has hammered that injury question shut in the past season and a half. Especially the beginning of this season..

Completely understand the ramifications of the 53 limit, the Practice squad and the 80 man limit coming into the training camp.

I can think of three or four pieces of "dead" weight off the top that could have been used more effectively.

If Breno isn't worthy to be active in the dire shape we were in at tackle, there is no way he should be on the 53.

Jeremy Thompson comes to mind, doesn't fit either role on base defense, we have Brad Jones there as a developmental prospect, Havner can also play in a pinch.. we have enough cap money tied up in Brady to keep him around.

So this 53 man excuse is something of myth in this case where you have key spots uncovered with suitable backups....
