hes got to compete with barbre (however spelled)
for the spot - its not just sign and hes in to play;

Im still not convinced this is going to help that much - ya getting clifton back at LT will be good. But remember we had a large amount of sacks last year also.

It think Tausch was credited with something like 1.5 of them sacks though. He has always been fundamental which keeps him in good position.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

i hope that clifton doesnt even need to play. That the simple signing of him will hopefully raise Barbe up a few pegs! Something had to be done and i think barbe will see the improvement just by training next to the guy!

I don't know if it really helps us all that much, but I am VERY glad Tausch is signed, and couldn't be happier.

I think his signing could help out alot.. I mean Tausch was arguably the best O linemen for the packers last season. Hopefully his injury didnt hurt him that bad.. But I still have faith in the fat man. :icon_smile:

You guys do realize that we have recreated the same struggling O-line that we had last year, right?

And that our running game will be worse off with Tauscher at tackle than with Barbre.

Don't get me wrong, I love having him back, especially since we're a passing team, but I think that quite a few people might be a tad bit overly optimistic.

Tauscher wasnt the reason for the 2008 Olines struggles tho.

Not really though, Wells was at C and Spitz was at RG. Sitton at RG over Spitz and Spitz at C over Wells are both upgrades IMO, plus Cliffy was banged up all of last year.

Well, ok. Maybe it's a gross overstatement to say that we'll struggle as much as last year, but the way you guys are fighting my post already shows how high hopes are here.

I think that our O-line will still be below average. Tauscher's coming off of a horrible injury. Clifton is 'banged up' already, as well. It's true that our interior line has changed and progressed a lot since last year, but I don't think that our O-line will be better than the 2008 one. They'll be better than the beginning of this season, but Clifton and Tauscher aren't getting any younger and/or healthier.

And like I said, our running game will be worse off with Tauscher at tackle than with Barbre. We just have to hope that teams will drop some more guys in coverage, giving us some more running lanes.

I must confess myself a little disappointed. The Packers' front office has had weeks -- nay, months -- to scan the market for quality offensive line players, and the best they could come up with was . . . Tauscher? A player who hasn't taken a snap in over a year, who is still rehabbing his knee? You're telling me there's no one out there who could do as good a job as that? Color me skeptical.

At the beginning of this season I was gloating that there seemed to be a sea change in the way McCarthy and Thompson did business -- jettisoning the favoritism. You do your job or you hit the bricks. But with Jackson, Bigby, Wynn, and now Tauscher on the roster, I'm not so sure.

You're telling me there are no other options out there? Seriously?

Quality Offensive Lineman don't just sit on the streets, people need to realize that. Outside of Levi Jones, who in his last stint at OT was statistically one of the worst in the NFL, Tauscher is without a doubt our best option, especially when you take his experience in this system into account.
