I must confess myself a little disappointed. The Packers' front office has had weeks -- nay, months -- to scan the market for quality offensive line players, and the best they could come up with was . . . Tauscher? A player who hasn't taken a snap in over a year, who is still rehabbing his knee? You're telling me there's no one out there who could do as good a job as that? Color me skeptical.

At the beginning of this season I was gloating that there seemed to be a sea change in the way McCarthy and Thompson did business -- jettisoning the favoritism. You do your job or you hit the bricks. But with Jackson, Bigby, Wynn, and now Tauscher on the roster, I'm not so sure.

You're telling me there are no other options out there? Seriously?

Seriously how is anyone ever going to take you seriously?

Hasn't taken a snap in over a year? Umm, December was only 10 months away. C'mon man, what the puck!

Well, ok. Maybe it's a gross overstatement to say that we'll struggle as much as last year, but the way you guys are fighting my post already shows how high hopes are here.

I think that our O-line will still be below average. Tauscher's coming off of a horrible injury. Clifton is 'banged up' already, as well. It's true that our interior line has changed and progressed a lot since last year, but I don't think that our O-line will be better than the 2008 one. They'll be better than the beginning of this season, but Clifton and Tauscher aren't getting any younger and/or healthier.

And like I said, our running game will be worse off with Tauscher at tackle than with Barbre. We just have to hope that teams will drop some more guys in coverage, giving us some more running lanes.

I wouldn't say I have high hopes for this season, for the future yes, but for this season I think they can perform more than adequetly. People need to realize that Tauscher isn't going to be handed the starting gig unless Barbre completely falls on his face again. Barbre has performed consistently better each week and is only going to get better. Everyone always raved about the talent Barbre possessed, the only thing that ever held him back was his tech flaws and that he needed the game to slow down for him a bit. You can see that the game is starting to slow down for him and the more reps he gets, the more settled he will become and he'll be able to show the true talent he possesses. This Offensive Line isn't far off, the only difference between this Offensive Line and the Giants Offensive Line is continuity and experience. We are pretty much set for the forseeable future at every position along the line outside of LT IMO with Colledge at LG, Spitz at C, Sitton at RG, and Barbre/Lang at RT, time to go out and get that blue-chip LT!

In regards to that... who was it here who threw the "Kampman for Joe Thomas" trade out there? Because I talked to my dad yesterday and he said, "You know what trade rumor I heard??" and wouldn't you know, it was something that someone here on PH made up. We have to be more careful with our random thoughts, people. They become the hot rumors.

Yeah, if a blue chip LT is at all available, we need to jump on it. I was hoping Meredith would pan out, but clearly he didn't. That and special weapons are really all we need after rebuilding the team from the Sherman-as-GM debacle.

Joe Thomas would be an absolute dream come true, and Cleveland MAY be crazy enough to get rid of him if the right deal came along. Luckily for us, this Draft is pretty deep at OT if a few underclassmen declare. MY favorite guys right now are Charles Brown(USC) and Anthony Davis(RUT), both are pretty raw but ooze with potential. The ideal scenario would be to sign Cliffy to a 1 or 2 year deal and let these guys grow into their roles before being thrown into the fire.

Making an assumption, that Tauscher health is back to where it was prior to the injury, I don't think we have to worry about the RT spot for a year or two. Mark is not one of those players that depends on raw talent and physical tools for his play. He has always been a technician. Which is what accounts for his low penalty tally. That being, age is less of a factor for him, because with age, skills diminish, but the brain doesn't. He will still have his technique. Hope he can pass that on to Barbre or who ever.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
