1-2 sacks I'll blame Aaron Rodgers for, but you shouldn't discourage him from keeping plays alive. He did this on Lee's dropped TD for example...I'll take the many pros over the fewer cons!

This is all our incompotent tackles...that's it. I honestly can't think of a play where Aaron Rodgers wasn't on the move. 8 sacks is f'n pathetic!

Exactly.

This talk about deer in the headlights and holding the ball too long is just plain wrong period.

Rodgers' style of play is he's going to keep the play alive as long as it takes. Think Ben Roethlisberger. They're constantly looking to get the ball down the field. That's their style of play and there is nothing wrong with that. When Rodgers wants too, he can get rid of the ball as quick as anyone in the NFL right now. It depends on the play call and situation though.

There was no deer in the headlights as some are suggesting. That again is wrong and I don't like to use that ignorant kind of talk because everyone is entitle to their opinion, but for this, those saying that deserve it.

When you watch the game, it's not just the sacks that are occurring, but the the pocket is collapsing on plays that Rodgers throws the ball on. He's force out of the pocket way too soon and he's forced to do things different. There are zero throwing lanes at times and that's one of the reasons he has to hold the ball too long.

He can't see the receiver because a lineman is coming.

I'm not saying he doesn't take some unnessacary sacks or hits, but Rodgers is not the reason the Packers have 20 sacks right now. The offensive line is. They're a joke.

+1s for musccy and porky - Rodgers will hold on to it sometimes - that's his style. But he doesn't do it as a default and he wasn't a "deer in the headlights" last night - I'm pretty sure he was working to keep himself composed and not screaming at his shitty OL.

All depends on the play call - if it's a beat-throw play, he'll get it out like he's supposed to 90% of the time. Other plays, he'll take off and run. Other plays, he'll work and work to make a play.

Beyond that, some people seem to be asking for the impossible - in the case of the majority of the sacks, he had no choice - either take the sack or fling the ball out willy-nilly. I'm glad he took the sacks, personally.

It's not A.R. It's the OL, period. You replace that with good - even just decent - OL play, and this team is 4-0 and looking scary as all hell.

like porky said, we shouldn't excuse Rodgers from all blame, but good lord, I can't think of a 3 step drop he had last night where he wasn't immediately being flushed out, pressured, or whatever.

I'm extremely happy that he keeps plays alive a la Rothelisberger or his mentor...it just looks bad when it takes 6-7 guys to block 4 linemen...it's going to take some time for the wrs to get open!

A lot of great points have been made in these 7 pages, and honestly, I have NO clue as to what should be done. At times I'm thinking Aaron holds on to the ball too long, then someone makes the very valid point that our view of that is skewed due to the instant pressure he's under.

I DO know that I don't remember an offensive line this completely horrible in...well...decades. And yes, the ZB scheme needs to GO in a bad way. I am afraid that not much can be done at this point and time, and it's going to be a long season. Tausch and Jones would be better than what we have now, but this should have been addressed in the offseason, not scrambling for a quick fix in week 5!

I just don't know....I'm at a loss.

How I'd fix it:
1. Recognize that a short term fix (i.e. for 2009 season) is unlikely.
1A. Have a revolving door of tryouts, signings, cuts, etc. Hope that Jones, Tauscher, others can reduce opponent sacks to 2 per game. Keep fingers crossed that Rodgers doesn't get hurt or develop too many habits of the "deer in headlights" variety.
2. Pay big bucks to steal the top OL talent-spotting gurus, wherever they might be. Get those gurus IDing college players and next year's likely free agents.
3. Ignore what current staff says about college OL talent and draft whoever those gurus say should be drafted high....even if you have to trade up to do it.
4. But because even if gurus are right, said draftee(s) are unlikely to make the needed difference in their first year, spend big on OL in free agency next year.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I haven't read all the thread so I don't know if this has been suggested.

When the play is a pass there are so many holes in the line it is a joke.

The only way to fix this is, is to tell the O/L that every play is a passing play and then run 50% of the time.

Ryan Grant will have massive holes to run through therefore gaining positive yards on every attempt. :thumbleft: :thumbleft:

Fix the offensive line?

How about we steal a couple shackles and covertly give our line an assist via the restraint method.. however we might want to give a remedial course on how to shackle the opposition and not ourselves. ;)

Seriously.. watching the protection again.. it was pathetic on the edges.. absolutely pathetic..

Maybe next year Ted Thompson will spend a little money, the joke is that The Packers have a very bad O-line, no experienced back-ups(except Wells), WHILE BEING 28 MILLION OR SO UNDER THE CAP!!!!!

I am not going to blame the players, The Packers are to many years into this, 5 years is enough time to assemble a workable O-line.

Last year it was the defense, major changes were made in the coaching staff.

Now this year it is the O-line, IMHO it is time to look beyond THE PLAYERS, TT, Mike McCarthy and crew have to bear the absolute responsibility for these problems!!!!!

HEY Ted Thompson AND MM...IT'S NOT WORKING, change what you are doing or get the hell out and let someone else take this team to the next level.

I feel bad for AR, I especially feel bad for Greg Jennings, he has been almost completely forgotten.

Playmakers want to be able to make plays, how long will they stay happy being in Green Bay, playing in a scheme where 1, some careers are at stake every snap, and 2, not being able to perform the way some know they can?

I'll post it again....

DETROIT,CLEVELAND.MINNESOTA, AND TAMPA BAY ARE ALL MUST WINS!!!!!

Packers lose any of the next 4 games, IMHO coaching and management changes need to be made!!!
