Where have you seen this "leave Brett alone" crap? Certainly not from Vikings fans.

"VikesFan82" wrote:

this really the tone you want to use with me the first time you post to me? nice.

anyway, i see it all over the place from the Packer fans who feel we (being the Packer organization and everybody who isn't Brett) betrayed Brett, who amounts to the Lord of Lords to these fanatics.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

It may be more than that. Who knows who he'll be playing for next season, or the next, or the one after that...

"DakotaT" wrote:

Possibly, but everyone knows he wanted to play for the Vikings from day 1 when he first learned he was going to have to compete for his old job. This is where Favre wanted to be the entire time and now he is here. I really don't think he'll end up on another squad unless he still wants to play next year and the Vikings organization doesn't want him back...which admittedly is a small possibility.

People have been getting short fuses with packer fans for years, from all the coverage that Brett got over the years. Just like now. MN has the best RB in the league, but what do you hear. Brett, Brett, Brett. Has been that forever. It won't quit until Brett is retired for good.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

People tend to forget about packer fans, that MANY wanted him back after he said he retired. Thus the hostility toward Aaron Rodgers in his first training camp and what not. So I don't want to hear anyone suggesting that Packer fans have not been faithful to Favre. However as a fan, when your star for the last 16 or so years goes to your rival, on purpose. Its just not going to fly...Not with Packer fans, and not with any fans. Simple as that.

Speak for yourself. It flies just fine with me. The man plays football for money. He can play for whoever he pleases.

Contrary to the OP's findings, I have found more people liking the Packers now - knowledgeable football people anyway. I think the passive fan only cared about Favre and doesn't follow the game closely enough to understand what's really going on.

Everyone I know who truly follows football all like the Packers way better than three years ago. People were so sick of the Favre cult and they liked how our organization finally excised the tumor and went with Rodgers. And as far as the fans go, other teams fans do NOT like the Favre fans because they're so blind they can't see they have a good QB in Rodgers.

Passive fans lost interest in the Packers
Knowledgeable fans like the Packers more
Passive fans don't care about other fans
Knowledgeable fans strongly dislike Favre jock sniffers

At least that's what I've experienced my case study.

Upon further thought...

What one person thinks is a "good" fan could be totally different from what another person thinks.

Probably should agree to those terms before even discussing the issue.

Homer fans or objective?
Aggressive toward opposing teams and fans or respectful?
Boo their own players when playing poorly?

I'd say the only non-debatable measure of a good fan is whether they show up if the team has a losing record or not. Then you can maybe also compare that to the size of the population that the team represents. Packer fans fare well there. Viking fans can barely sell out their dome even when projected to go to the Superbowl.

Personally, I like objective fans who'll let you know if you suck or not and will be violent to opposing fans and teams. By my terms, a lot Packer fans are pussies. But I'm from Jersey, and I root more like an Eagle fan. And despite me findng the Eagles fans intolerable. They're good fans.

Favre fans probably didn't like what the Packers did to Favre and those who were tired of Favre were probably glad what happened. The Packers have one of the strongest fan bases in the league and are one of the most popular franchises in football. That's why they get primetime games even when they lose. Packer fans stick up for their team. That's why they're Packer fans.

The Cowboys have a huge fanbase, but people don't like them either. The Steelers and Giants round out the fab four IMO so you really can't say one thing or another.

In baseball, the Yankess are a ratings phenom, but most non Yankee fans rate them as one of their least favorite teams.

My point is if you're popular, you're also probably unpopular.

Every team has people that just don't like them. Every team has people that like them and every team has people who don't care. To state that this has made the Packers fans seem unpopular based on what your friend who is a Lions fan (rival) is simply not true.

Afterall when GB was 12-20 over 05-06 a lot of people were saying Rodgers needs to play and Favre needs to sit. It was a very realistic question that was brought up. Those same people right now are the same people trolling the ESPN message boards.

If anything, Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson look bad, but not the Packers. Most fan bases would love to have half of the success Green Bay has had in their history. I would say most fans would love to go to a game at Lambeau. They envy the Packers and their fans just like they envy Pittsburgh. NYG, Dallas, and the Yankees in baseball.

I side with the bozz on one point:
Who cares if I am hated for being a Packer fan?

When I was a kid, the Packers stunk. I still traded away my Marcus Allen rookie football cards for Packer linemen from my friends. They thought I was stupid. What can I say, I am a PACKER fan. First and foremost, it is the TEAM.

I was truly fortunate to live during the Brett Favre years and the return of a winning spirit to Titletown. #4 was our quarterback, our leader, and to some, our football god.

Now he is gone. I have mixed feelings of course. I don't care about the whole saga of how it happened, I'm sure there is enough blame to go around. I'm just sad I can't fit into my old #12 Lynn Dickey jersey (ha!) but am happy to buy another #12 b/c I think I see some of the young Brett Favre in Aaron Rodgers.

I'm not lying when I say it will be hard to see him on the opposing sideline (and of ALL teams, the ViQueens). I won't burn my #4 jerseys because those are representative of wonderful years that I remember fondly. I will, though, wear my "We'll Never Forget you Brent" shirt (I chose the passive aggressive hit rather than Benedict Brett). To me, it is in good fun. Also, this shirt will represent to me these uneasy, transitional years when he is still in the league but not with the Pack (may they be hopefully brief).

Ultimately, I think if I pull that shirt out in 10 or 15 years, it will be just as much of a novelty as a Charles Martin jersey or an Incredible Bust T-shirt. Moments in time for people to say, "oh, yeah, I remember that whole business."
