Smith blew his assignment on his big interception on preseason. The offense was running two WR up field between the sideline and hash mark. Smith was responsible for deep coverage on that side of the field instead Smith was playing center field.

Sounds like Rouse's interception again the Colts last year.

Smith made some mistakes and went for glory instead of serving the greater good too often. At least, that's what I asume. Problem is, half of our safeties do this. Collins is ballhawking on places where he's really stretching his zones, Rouse appears to go for glory on every passing play when he's in and Bigby, well, he had that same spirit in 2007, but is just that solid guy right now. Bush couldn't cover a 200 pound fullback, so I'm not even going to go there.

I want to go even further back and say that it's a shame that we didn't get Leonhard. Long shot, as he eventually went after his coach, but still, that would've been a great addition.

I don't have such hard feelings about Smith being let go as some of you, but it's not my favorite move either. Especially since they apparently don't even trust Martin on the field as a safety or something.

I would be happy with Giordano. I don't know anything about the other 2.

if people remember how i was laughing and making fun of Ted Thompson for making his big splashes in the off season of picking up Smith and Preston and of course he did the Ted Thompson thing and cut both of them.

Folks remember Ted Thompson believes in his players being able to play multiple positions and he's not to concerned about have a player that plays one position well. We will always be a mediocre team under Ted Thompson and his strategy. He is in year 5 wtf are we doing being the youngest team again.

Sorry RP it doesn't look to good for TT's 5 year plan. Btw RP come back and do some posting i miss them.

Anyone seen CAliforinia guy around after Rodgers has started slow? He was all over during the preseason.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I wanted Bush gone last year. That one still amazes me.

A very strange thing happened, I am no longer as passionate about it as I once was.

I'm sure it is a fleeting sentiment...the whole charitable thing...

:thumbleft:

And maybe...just maybe...this whole workout thing with safeties will see Bush hitting the bricks.

Is Mao Zedong in any way related to you, dhazer? Whenever we have a negative topic, you pop in and make one of your speeches. Lol.

You're right to a certain degree, though. With just a few FA additions we would've put this team over the top, I think. Two might've been enough. One of the problems was that the OT class was pretty shallow. I mean, when Marvel Smith, Tra Thomas and Mark Tauscher are the cream of the crop in the FA market at a position, you know you won't get that much out of them. They're all players that you can quickly plug a gap with. Something like we'd need now. But they're not the kinds of guys you want to throw money at in the off-season.

Same goes for safety. The only guy who switched teams who was any good was Brian Dawkins. Another player who's really getting up there in age.

Well Martin has only been on the team 2 weeks. I would like to see him on the field just so I can get a feel for his play. Rouse looked pretty good to me this week overall. He was tackling better than most of the normal starters, wrapping up, and was nice to see him tough it out after he got that shoulder stinger. He also seems to be playing with more control than in the past. I think the zone coverage fits him better than the man scheme did.

If we have to go to which ever S they are looking at now, we are screwed anyways. All this looking may just be for future if more injuries start hitting the position.

That is one.. +1.

But when Woodson plays off, baits in the throw, jumps it and makes a big play we cheer him. Smith was out of position yet recovered and made a play.. and we scold him. Or maybe it was highlighted to defend his upcoming release.. not that I am sold on that story.. but..

But I won't deny.. Smith was way to shallow on that coverage..

Where's the proof of this silly statement? I'm guessing you read something about how two players were very close and one's ability to play ST well was the deciding factor, and you determined that they chose to take the player who was ok on D (or O) and ST vs. the player who was great on D (or O) and bad on ST. Reading an article with a skewed perception and letting it affect what you read is pretty much your M.O..

OK--We got your English finely honed. Your football knowledge borders on the incredible. Now we got to get to work on this whole trying to have a reasonable discussion with Dhaze when he interjects his pure unadulterated bullshit. My input? Tell him to kindly take his Ted Thompson hate and stick it where the sun don't shine and be done with it, lol.

Big difference between playing off, and being out of position though. Woody is still covering his zone.

And as for looking at S. Not a bad idea when the first 3 are all dinged up after two weeks.

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
