It's rare that you see an officially totally out of the play;

The pastier the ref, the more horrible they are, it seems.

My most hated NFL ref is Jeff Triplette:

In the NBA, it's Joe Crawford:

My favorite NFL ref happens to be Mike Carey, so I think there is a correlation here.

Here is the thing.. this is a game played by man.. officiated by man.

Man is prone to mistakes.

So a certain percentage of the game will have that element to it.. I personally become agitated when they blow calls, but just like the forward pass it is part of game.

Mistakes, I agree with. But (and I'm not saying we saw this Sunday night) if there is a pattern to their calls that suggests they are LOOKING FOR penalties on one team and missing calls on the other, it goes beyond mistakes toward a fundamental problem in their officiating that needs to be addressed.

What really gets me about calls like the Illegal Contact against Harris, is where the call comes from. The call comes from an official 20 yards down field. I don't honestly believe from 20 yards away, they could tell if I was standing on 4, 5 or 6 yards for the LOS. It is basically a guess where the players are in relation to the LOS.

"PackFanWithTwins" wrote:

On the replay they had the official standing at the LOS so he was adequately positioned to make the call.

EVERY SINGLE GAME we could bitch about this though. We focus on how the packers get screwed but overlook the bad/no calls affecting the other team. I still contend that AH ran through the wr thus interfered with the him for his game ending pick, but who is on here pissing and moaning about that?

BTW, if Ed Hockuli and I were alone on the street, i don't think I'd ask him about blown calls in the broncos-chargers game last year 🙂

Absolutely agreed.. but we didn't see a recurring issue in they way they called the game.

On Harris's illegal contact, the Line Judge is responsible for making the correct call on the formation, he blew it. So that back judge bases his read (BTW, opposing coaches still harp on the Packers for bumps) on the line up of the receiver to draw a point of reference.. we seen one miss the call and the second make a ball read based on the first's error.

Yes the timing sucked.. but just as the player and coaches are still getting into the groove and communication upon the field, so are the officiating crews.

Last night in the Oakland-San Deigo game the refs got it right and the replay official wrongly reversed it! No excuse for that.

So let me get this straight. They call Al Harris for a penalty on the opposite side of the field when he barely touched a guy but on the Devin Hester TD they don't call an obvious push off (offensive interference) on Greg Olsen? The refs were terrible in this game.

You can watch the Olsen PI here: http://www.nfl.com/videos/chicago-bears/09000d5d8129bf79/Devin-Hester-Highlight-WK-01-vs-Packers-2009

They'll show the replay of the TD and you can see Olsen gets a big 'ol left hand on Hawk and shoves him as he cuts the other way. It's pretty apparent. Also if you call me a nitpicker just look at the penalty they called on Harris when there should have been one on Chicago. Ridiculous.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
    Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
