This 85 foot rule is interesting.. here is a copy of the NFL official rulebook where the playing surface is discussed in depth.. nothing noted about 85 foot rule above the surface.

Why 2006... in the middle of the playing stages of this billion dollar venue.. chapter one..the field.

Weird.. I am using firefox.. just the complete rule book describing all the "legal" field requirements... no mention of any obstructions over the surface and no 85 foot rule..

I think the NFL very well may have blown this one as well.. but does that absolve Jones of any responsibility in this oversight.. since he shelled out the money and stamped the approvals.. I think the first blush of blame falls on his shoulders.

Overall.. probably not that big of deal.. but it doesn't change my perception of the jackass.

I just tried it again and it crashed my Firefox again.

But I totally agree with you on that regard. This is overblown, and I'm certainly not defending Jerry Jones because I like the guy. I'm just trying, in my own futile way, to stem the tide of media demonization of everyone in sight.

I like how the NFL already added in special instant replay rules for JJ's scoreboard. Must be good to be the King.

Like I said.. The NFL is more to blame. According to many media sources, the rule is 85 feet above the playing surface. Jones put his TV at 90 feet. The plans HAD to be reviewed and approved by the NFL in some way. I think it's really obvious that because of 'The Punt', the NFL realized they dropped the ball. And instead of shelling out the money to move the sucker, they made a rule to specifically cover any coming issues that'll come with that giant TV.

Now, yes.. I agree with you on the part that Jones DOES have some responsibility with this. I know that the Colts owner tested Lucas Oil stadium with some punters and such.. And eventually had their big screens put up off to the sides/corners because of the tests. Should Jones have done that? Yeah, probably. Was it mandated? Who knows. Maybe that's another thing the NFL has to do in order to prevent any future issues.

Or they realized and KNOW that the blame falls on the NFL, NOT Jerry Jones.

Which is why I said media sources... I don't know if that NFL rulebook has ALL the rules/regulations the NFL has. And citing media sources removes the possibility of me being called out for being 'wrong' by all the bookworm nerds. 😛

LOL.. check out that rulebook.. it is intense the amount of detail they put into the small things such as striping sizes and locations.. lol..

I just like calling out the media when possible.. we all know they check things out so thoroughly.. one reports something they think and the rest [strike]site [/strike] cite them as the source.. lol.

Jerry Jones complied with all regulations. If the NFL had a problem with it, they should have intervened before the stadium was constructed. This is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. If a dumbass punter can't kick around a television display, I don't think he deserves to be collecting his millions.

Disagree... to a point.. this is a faulty design in the first place.. whom in their non egotistical mind would construct a billion dollar stadium with an intrusion into the playing area?

Would one not logically conduct a study on the clearance needed from playing surface upwards to ensure that it would not intrude upon the game?

Logic tells you, yes, that would be the case. It will impede the games at times... is it a huge deal no.. but it still is an obstruction that shouldn't be.

Jerry's response to the whole matter is classic Jerry "F%&king" Jones... they say everything in Texas is bigger.. it might not hold truth across the boards.. but Jerry's ego fits the mantra.

Genuine pompous asshole.
