I read this and go back to the initial Redding articles speaking of functional strength and conditioning.. I think this is a trickle down aspect of that philosophy bleeding into the core roster.
Now.. will this help free his mind to play more attacking instinctive ball? ;)

Yeah, that's what it comes down to, and there could be a connection here. If bozz's suggestion is on the mark, it's possible that Hawk has been playing conservatively in order to preserve energy. He would never admit that, of course, and neither would anybody else on the team, but players who have stamina problems typically hold something back, maybe without being aware that they are doing it.
I wonder if Hawk has had more big plays early in games and then has tended to tail off toward the end. It kind of seems that way to me, but it would take some research, and access to game film, to see if there's really a pattern there. That's the sort of stuff that NFL teams keep track of, though.
I would like to see Hawk looking just a little leaner and rangier--more like Brandon Chillar, actually. More like a football player and less like Charles Atlas.
