You know, I've been doing some thinking about this, and I'm thinking I may have to reconsider my philosophy a little. After all, this is basically just a philosophy disagreement. I personally find defense and run-based offenses boring (maybe I'm hyperactive) and I tend to enjoy flashy, pass-based offenses more. So perhaps I overly deprecate the quarterbacks who "just get the job done."
The fact is, players like Manning and Roethlisberger haven't HAD to do as much as other QBs like Rodgers, so we haven't really had a chance to see what they could do if they had to. And while their play isn't as exciting or flashy, one could say there's something noble about doing what's asked of you and not making any foolish mistakes, whereas perhaps Rodgers' numbers are inflated by needing to carry the team on his shoulders.
So while I'll try to give these journeymen, "clutch" quarterbacks more respect in the future, I still don't give them primary credit for the rings. That doesn't mean, however, they aren't good quarterbacks. I can see that now.
