dfosterf I know, I know. Raji may not be signed by the opening of camp. I am only saying that they (The player, his agent and the Packers organization) don't have to sit and wait on Crabtree to sign before they make their move.

Ya, I know, I'm not even arguing with you at all, Wayne. I'm actually trying to figure out what both the team and this agent can do in this scenario.

I am actually (even as we speak) crunching these numbers, coupled with last year's numbers, to see what is looking fair.

It is so interesting to see how close the contracts came to the slots last year.

The big thing is that there was no SERIOUS deviation through slots 1-16 (mor is too big a pain my ass)

Here is a real quick look:

This will be per year, in order to simplify the 5 and 6 year contracts.

1st number is salary per year, 2nd is guarantee per year

1. 11.5 6.0
2. 9.41 4.8
3. 12.0 5.66
4. 10.0 4.33
5. 10.2 4.6
6. 10.0 4.2
7. 9.8 3.9
8. 6.68 3.54
9. 3.8 2.6 note precipitous drop--important in this discussion, imo
10. 3.78 2.76
11. 3.88 2.52
12. 3.5 2.3
13. 4.0 2.159
14. 3.2 2.0
15. 3.16 1.84
16. 3.02 1.80
............................................

So there is going to be an escalation, we all know that, but you can see what would happen if we start getting guys getting paid "out of slot" beyond the 8 slot.

OK fellas--- Here we go. The Packers will be "pro-active".

The 9 slot last year paid 3.8 million per year, with 2.6 million per year guaranteed.

The 3 slot this year looks like around 12 million per year, with about 5.75 million guaranteed...at least...the contract that the 10 slot is looking for.

Pay the man.

Lemme see it.

But Crabtree isn't going to get that money.. any sane GM, Agent and player knows that isn't going to happen.

Crabtree has less of an argument than Ryan Simms and Kevin Williams had in the Viking draft card issue..

I seriously hope we (Raji's agent, the Packers and Raji himself) aren't waiting for that deal to get this deal done, otherwise we all better go buy a box full of Snickers.

I think a DT was taken last year at #7, that seems like it would be the best contract to go off of.

compared to the 9 slot, that got 6yrs 23 mil - or 3.8 mil per yr.

It is certainly not as simple as many seem to think.

We aren't dealing with the reality of what Crabtree will or will not get.. We are dealing with the possibility and or FEAR of what he might get---If those clowns (SF/Crabtree/agent) are actually fighting in any way over this...

Look at 7 hole money compared to 9 hole money---

IT WILL NOT HAPPEN

How does Ted Thompson and co. get proactive past 8 slot $$$?

IF THEY GET TO 8 SLOT money,

Does Raji's agent say sign?

He may be leaving, say, 6 slot or 7 slot money on the table, in the minds of any prospective clients next year if Crabtree gets 7 or 8 slot money.

You have to look at the numbers, imo

5 years 23 million 15.5 million guaranteed

After that, Raji and his agent can blow me.

They will tell us to screw off with that number, probably.

More trouble, imo.

Rookie wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey signed a five-year contract Thursday that will pay him $38.25 million in base salary - $23.5 million of it guaranteed - with a maximum value of $54 million.

That is the 7 hole, and I will not even get into the quality of the selection in the first friggin' place.

That is the best "slotting info" out there.

That is 7.65 or 10.8 million yr. dependent upon your definition, 4.7 mil guarantee per yr.

For that pos

getting nervous, lol

Yes... the Raider screwed the pooch on that deal.. seen that yesterday.

But there is an automatic, "Al is crazy" discount that needs to be applied. 😉

The 9 slot is an OLB though. It makes more sense to me that they would use the 7 slot DT to go off of so don't be surprised if that's the kind of money they are looking for. Something like 5 years 50mil with 20m guaranteed.

Sign the bastard to 1 year 7 million and say earn your new contract lol, all those greedy bastards don't need more. 😛 More players need to just start being there own damn agents and i bet we would see alot lower contracts because part of the contract money wouldn't be going to the agent.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
