I said that "absent a midseason signing" it would guarantee that he wouldn't be back, the assumption being, of course, that another team would offer him significantly more. According to the articles posted above, this contract gives Williams what amounts to an outright release after this season, which would allow him to test the free-agent market. If Ted Thompson gives him a few games to show his worth in the new scheme and then offers him a long-term deal, we would see Williams back next year.

Non sense. If he does well, we'll resign him. It's a pretty simple scenario. As you mentioned, he may even be resigned before seasons end, which is what I'm expecting.

I simply feel that because he signed a one year deal that it does not mean once so ever that he'll be gone after the season if he does not have a contract. I just do not see the logic in that thinking. I'm trying to, just, can't, do, it.

All I know is Tramon is a Packer and will be a Packer for years to come. Why? Because I freaking said so! 🙂

The only reason for my assumption is that the contract apparently gives him an outright release. Therefore, the Packers have no rights to him after this season.

My thoughts are pretty basic, Thompson to date hasn't let players with value walk away for nothing, see a legendary QB and Williams as examples.

So that leads me to believe that the Packers have a plan in regards to Williams, probably have an idea of what type of deal he will want at the end of this season, and won't just let him walk away "free"...

But, I will say this, Ball and Thompson have their work cut out for them this season in terms of re-inking players of Thompson's bringing.. and Kampman to boot..
