Heard a interesting detail to the parameters of the deal signed yesterday on the Wisconsin Radio report this morning coming into work..
Per the contract, the Packers gave up their rights to Williams after this season as part of the deal, basically making him UFA after the season... so either it was an error on their part or the Papers have not read the
fine print of the contract...
I read through the CBA this morning quick, it appears that the Packers can legally do that, release Williams from his restricted rights, if they choose to.. basically an outright release..
If this proved to be the case, this makes a ton of sense for both sides, if he plays up to his potential, Williams has the leverage. If he doesn't, the Packers are protected in a one year deal.. puts the pressure on the Packers to lock him up this season if he is excelling.. thus giving Ted the ability to tie up the money in this years cap... smart fair way to handle it.
