I think Ted has a small ego for a GM. GM's with huge ego's would have kept Cory Rodgers after using a 4th? round pick on the guy.

Didn't read through the thread, but the topic is ego.

Every GM has an ego. Every head coach has an ego. Most players have an ego.

The people criticizing Thompson for his ego need to remember that Brett Favre, Mike Holmgren, Ron Wolf, Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Steve Young, Joe Montana, and so on and so on all have egos. Heck I would argue that everyone on this forum probably has an ego. We're all people so criticizing Thompson over his massive ego is hypocritical especially when half of the people that we all admire like a Brett Favre and a Mike Holmgren also have egos. It's just the way it is. It's part of the beast and in a lot of ways it helps drive the competitive nature that all of these guys have.

I only read a few posts because i figure it is all the same bs . Ted Thompson is just like reinsdorf and they bot were winning then they ran the star out and havent done crap since.

BTW since Ted Thompson is taking credit for bringing in Brett, whats next he brought in Reggie, hell he might as well say he told Vince to get Bart and Paul and Max lol.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

For the humor-challenged, neither of those are much in the word department, yet remain both somewhat humorous and expository(perhaps irregardless, not so much) but I will tell you what isn't funny, imo. Posts made when the poster doesn't even bother to read what has preceded, but feel compelled and qualified to comment upon it.

Seems rather one-sided to me. It is an opinion.

Hazer, you gotta stop comparing Thompson to Reinsdork. I know you don't like the guy, but comparing him to almighty Satan is just crazy talk. :pottytrain2:

And yes, I also like how you equate Ted Thompson watching tape on Brett and confiding with his boss as "taking credit for Brett". Ted Thompson said nothing of that sort. At all. I don't get it.

"dhazer" wrote:

Isn't that hilarious???
It's a part of FACT that Ted Thompson was asked about Favre.
How that gets spun into him taking CREDIT for Favre being here is once again how Hazer seems to roll.
I guess because the FACT that Ted Thompson had a small part in Favre being here, and obviously RON WOLF respected TT's opinion enough to ask him, just flys in the face of the blind hatred that some have for TT.
Anything that doesn't fit their preconceived ideas is automatically thrown out..........even if it IS FACT and TRUE.
Hmmm..........reminds me of a thread in the "the back alley" area on this site......

Wow, just wow.

First of all, I don't think you can make that arugment that I bolded in the first paragraph. Like Wils said, it's ONE YEAR!

And describe to me when Ted Thompson took credit for bringing in Brett........have any research that can prove this to us? When did Ted Thompson say that?

On topic...

I would also like to reflect on the confirmation by Trippster of what I always [strike]suspected strongly[/strike] knew was the the way Ted conducts business/management style.

He listens to his subordinates and bases decisions on their input, as any good manager would.

It is documented, for example, that Ron Wolf operated in much the same way.

For example, when he was contemplating the acquisition of Brett Favre, Ron sought input from one of his subordinates, specifically, Ted Thompson.

Ted watched the tape Ron gave him and concurred with Ron's assessment.

We as fans forget this, but I bet Ted doesn't. As far as who is on this organization right now...

Ted is by far and away the most responsible for Brett Favre EVER having been a Green Bay Packer, and that is very much under-appreciated...imo

One thing I always concern myself with is the possibility that one of his scouts has too much influence upon Ted...in other words, he listens too much to them, not enough. I worry when we draft anyone from Tennessee, for example. but that's another story.

Who is on this organization right now.

Not most responsible for Brett Favre being here.

I didn't highlight the quote.

Read the prior sentence to the highlight.

It is true, No one in the Packers organization RIGHT NOW is more responsible for getting Brett than Ted.

Obviously, Ron Wolf is THE most responsible, but he is no longer with the Pack...also obviously.

Here is my original post. Take away the emphasis provided by someone subsequent to my post and it reads a tad bit different, no? Like I said, good idea to read the thread prior to posting...sometimes it is important to do so. Thanks for the compliment ( I think? :tongue3: )

Nice split job, z-- that was a bit of a toughie to figure out the "how to do", imo

See the difference?

On another note ....

In possibly another vain attempt at interjecting a little humor---

NonStopdrivel crushed the competition when it comes to ragging on a fellow member over words, context, etc. I posted a photograph, with a (Vikes fan? I forget) holding a sign with text in the sign. I also posted a link to the source. He plus 1'd me for the humor, but then minused 1 me for the misspelling of the sign. You know, the sign in the friggin' photograph.

I still gotta laugh at the harshness of that one. I don't think anyone can beat that.
