I wouldn't have brought Brett in for what we paid for him either.

Brett was injury prone.

He had half of his intestines removed, and he failed his physical.

At least Justin Harrell passed his physical.

Therefore, Justin is the better pick. (How's that for applying whack logic--keepin' with the theme, here)

Sorry I don't have a link to the quotes discussing the decision making process when Ron Wolf opted to get Brett Favre.

Kind of tough to do, considering there weren't any.

The World wide web was having about 5 hits at the time.

You might not believe this, but I doubt that any of them were referencing Ted Thompson's input into that decision.

As far as who is more conservative, Ron Wolf certainly had a set on him to go out and get Brett, but they were cheesey balls in comparison to the titanium ones that Ted displayed in getting rid of him.

The doctors did not even approve his physical when he got to Green Bay, but Ron Wolf told them to go back and pass him anyway. At the time, critics thought this was a wasted move,

http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-6351063.html

Recalling a conversation he had with former Packers general manager Ron Wolf at practice Tuesday, Favre told reporters in his weekly news conference that he originally had failed his physical with the Packers after Wolf traded a first-round draft choice to Atlanta for him. According to Favre, Wolf went down and told the medical staff to pass Favre

And to add to Brett being "injury prone"

He is...

The injuries dont keep him out of games, but he has been hurt every year with something more then just a boo-boo

What planet do you live on?

Ted Thompson sucks, plain and simple.

31-33.
Why you people try to rationalize that is beyond me.

What is 31-33? His record? So taking away his first year, which everyone seems to accept is rational to do, his record is 27-21, while completely rebuilding the team with young talent and fixing the cap situation? Not bad. Thanks for the numbers.

And I'm glad you caught the spirit of what he was trying to say with the Harrell comparison.

If you READ the entire thing, he is being sarcastic and is using whack logic in his comparison of Brett and Justin based on one passed his physical and the other didnt

In regards to Thompson having a hand in the acquiring of Brett Favre.. I think that was a targeted move well in advance of Ted viewing tape. However, I fully believe that Ron probably wanted Ted to evaluate and pick apart his strengths and especially the weaknesses in his game for then new Head Coach Mike Holmgren.

source...

Then fate entered the picture in the fall of 1991. The Falcons were fed up with Favre, who was spending most of his rookie year partying. Klingler was enjoying a senior season in which he would throw 29 touchdown passes, and the Packers eyed him covetously. But on Nov. 20, with Green Bay in the midst of a 4-12 season, Braatz was fired. Wolf was hired shortly thereafter, and on Dec. 3 he met the Packers' board of directors for the first time. He faced a firing line of questions about the future of the team, including his opinion about incumbent quarterback Don Majkowski. "Our quarterback of the future is named Brett Favre," Wolf told the group. "We'll trade for him this off-season no matter what it takes." When Wolf hired Holmgren as the Packers' coach the following month, Holmgren readily agreed. On Feb. 10, 1992, Green Bay acquired Favre from the Falcons for a first-round pick in that year's draft.

No doubt a lot of talent evaluators on the Packers probably looked over Favre. It always sounded like Wolf was hellbent on getting Favre from day one though and that this was no doubt what he had in mind.

I guess my point is I wouldn't use Thompson helping to bring in Favre as a rational behind my arguement to defend him. Just not enough evidence for either side to stake claim too.

Wolf really did hit a grand slam with his evaluation of Favre. I mean nobody saw it coming, but Wolf himself. I think one of the reasons why Thompson was hired was because Wolf recommended him and quite honestly, Wolf would know best.

Wolf wanted Brett while he was with the Jets. Jets didn't have a 1st rounder and Wolf was going to use his 2nd rounder to get Brett, but the Falcons who were one pick in front, right in front of them actually took Brett.

Ted had nothing to do with it other than a simple opinion which Wolf was probably using as a test. Does Ted see what I see? Does he know talent when he sees it?

Wolf also endorsed Sherman as GM... so just as he was as a GM.. Wolf missed on a 1st round pick of GM in Sherman.
