I’m not an expert on Staley’s system or coaching ability, but I was listening to a podcast one day (I think Andy Herman) and he pointed out that his defensive scheme is very similar to Joe Barry. The difference is that Staley had Aaron Donald in his prime wrecking opposing OLines. Not everyone has an Aaron Donald, especially not us. Kenny Clark is good for 1-2 splash plays per game, but he certainly doesn’t wreck games.

In the Vic Fangio system, it really helps to have a dominant DL that can hold up in t mhe numbers are im advantage of the offense. The Packers don't have that, and that will hold this scheme back.

That being said, I really feel like Barry is late/bad at adjusting or willing to surprise or go outside the scheme, which all makes him more predictable, and that's bad when playing a chess match.

That performance was frighteningly bad.

Remarkably inept coverage against a mediocre offense.

Our interior linebackers, which I had thought were going to be a strength, were awful. Campbell was in a position several times to make plays and didn’t. Walker seems incredibly clueless in what to do in a cover two, and is only slightly less bad in man-to-man. Both of those however, are better than his run support.

We are playing with a bunch of scrubs in the defensive backfield. Ergo, the soft coverage and zone calls. That notwithstanding, in the few times, we did run man-to-man with safeties over the top, if this is what we can expect from Stokes, we should probably be drafting two cornerbacks, as Alexander is too fragile to play, that is if he even wants to play here.

However, it is the overall lack of intensity. which is the most disconcerting. I was watching the game in a spot where I can watch multiple games at once, and the Packer defense is by far the worst not only in terms of execution, but in terms of hitting and tackling. SOFT SOFT SOFT!!!!

We have a lot of number one draft choices and we are either not picking the right groceries or the chef isn’t terribly good or both.

I’m beginning to think both.
Go Packers!!!!

I saw a Tweet few weeks ago that said Joe Barry defense is designed to stop the Patrick Mahomes types, however, it makes subpar QB's look like superstars.

Speaking of Tweets.

Yeah, the only positive coming from this is it might get us a new DC. I’m glad Matt didn’t flat out say no to the possibility of firing Barry, like he has in the past.

I'm pretty sure 2023 is final year of Joe Barry contract. I doubt he's gonna be fired when they can just publicly say they "mutually part ways" middle of January when there's no new contract announced for Barry.

In other words. No reason to fire a guy, aka, humiliate him, when he's not under contract for 2024.

My understanding is this is true for position coaches, but not true for head coaches. I haven't really heard where Coordinators fall, but I assume with the coaches.

That being said, Mike Pettine's contract finished up, so one or both sides must not of agreed to an extension. And the same could absolutely be true for Barry this coming year. Just trying to add more context of coaches contracts, but it's also possible Packers/Barry added an extension year, and they'll be parting ways after the season.

It's also possible that LaFleur is stubborn as hell and keeps Barry.

I've speculated in the past, that he might love to add his best coaching friend, whom is currently head coach for the Jets, but I don't know if the Jets let him go yet.

There is also Brandon Staley, whom the Chargers fired, but can he put together a great defense without DT Aaron Donald and CB Ramsey?

I believe Jim Leonhardis available.

And if the Panthers fire their defensive coordinator, Ejiro Evero still has a good reputation, despite his teams struggling, but most people have been blaming the offenses.

Serious question, which of the Packers semi-recent defensive coordinator would you most want? Or is it simply any defensive coordinator the Packers hire is horrible?

Capers, Pettine, Barry?

Am I missing any?

Also, maybe which one is your favorite.

Barry isn't good, but I just feel like even if we get someone good, we'll continue to tear them to shreds as we do with all defensive coordinators.
