And I thought my expectations were low... now you have me nervous that we're basically going to get minimum for Rodgers.

After reading the Jets thought they could get Rodgers without giving up a 1st, I was thinking

2nd and 3rd in 2023 for Rodgers with a conditional pick in the future based on Rodgers returning in 2024 and how the team finished in 2023.

Then I read that Woody Johnson (Jets owner) was hoping the Packers would help split the cap cost of Rodgers first at least the first year and I thought the price just went up.

1st rounder in 2023 with a conditional 3rd in 2024 based on Rodgers returning and how the team does.

I also read one suggestion that I thought was semi reasonable that it could be two 2nd round picks in 2023 and 2024.

So that's where my mind/expectations have been.

This is assuming the Jets are bidding against themselves and there isn't a 2nd or 3rd team interested.

Three 1st round picks for the pair!

So whatever the compensation is, it most likely was agreed on, before the Packers let the Jets talk with Rodgers. Which is why I'm disappointed it hasn't been leaked yet... as this sounds like it's almost a done deal.

But really the Jets don't have much cap room in 2023, but they have the 16th most in 2024 and the 10th most in 2025. They can kick the can down the road if they want to go all in with no CURRENT problems...

Which 3 of the last 6 years (2017, 2018, 2020) he's finished 2nd best OVERALL OT grade, he was 12th overall in 2022.

In 2022, the Jets best OTs came in at #69, #71 and #76 in OT grades overall, behind Bakhtiari (#12), Tom (#40) and Nijman (#54)

A team that is in win now mode and doesn't have OT to protect a valuable QB really should make sure they have some protection for said QB.

As to Bahktari, I'm not saying he has no value (he's still a top 3 LT when healthy), it's just a big risk making the assumption that he will be/stay healthy. It's a risky assumption for the Packers too, assuming they keep him.

They could the 2025 1st round pick be conditional on Bakhtiari staying healthy then and playing at least xx% of snaps.

There are ways to get around the injury angle.

Perhaps I am ‘late to the dance’ on this, but wouldn’t the Jets and Packers have to have agreed on compensation, at least the broad strokes, before they would have even let the Jets talk to Rodgers?

It would seem to me they wouldn’t want to go through all the drama created, unless they had first come to some sort of arrangement.

That stretch aside, I believe they had some parameters set in place amd they're negotiating between them. Assuming Rodgers wants to play and play with Jets.

It's sounding to me more and more likely the Packers will get a 2023 2nd round pick from the Jets and a conditional 2024 pick that potential could become a 1st round pick (but not be).

I do think that fans are going to be disappointed with the return.  I am guessing a 2nd in 2023 with a Conditional 2nd or 1st in 2024 depending whether Aaron plays next year and based on the Jets success.  However, I have this strong feeling that Bakh will be included in the deal.  Jets need OL help as well as QB help.  Sending Bakh makes sense with the Jets window vs ours.  If Bakh goes I can see a 1st in 2023 and a Conditional 1st in 2024.  We would be eating much of Aaron's and Bakh's cap in 2023 so it is a pretty good all-in move on their part.

Fox Sports Reported "

Packers Have a High Asking Price For Aaron Rodgers Trade: Report
ByJason Hall
Mar 10, 2023

The Green Bay Packers are reportedly seeking multiple draft picks, including a first-round, as compensation in a potential trade for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, veteran NFL reporter Michael Lombardi said during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show Thursday (March 9).

"The Packers are looking for a one and they want something else if he plays longer," Lombardi said. "Now, I think what that means is we want your one but if he plays two years we want a three or we want a two, we want a conditional pick to go along with what we have."

Lombarid's report came days after New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and a contingent of team representatives reportedly flew to California to meet with Rodgers on Tuesday (March 7).  [twitter]https://twitter.com/i/status/1633892422408376321 [/twitter]

I have a hard time believing that Woody would load up that airplane, fill it with fuel and fly 2,500 miles across the country if he didn't think the kid was going to play, if he didn't think Aaron would play," Lombardi said. "Like, I don't think he'd waste fuel on that. It's not an expedition. We're not just Lewis and Clark here. We're hoping to find s***.

"I think they expect it. I think they want to do a deal. I think the Packers want to do a deal and I think Aaron wanted to hear what they had to say."

Rodgers' contract could complicate a deal as both teams would need to be in compliance with the salary cap prior to the beginning of the new league year next Wednesday (March 15). Lombardi pointed out that the Jets have recently released several players in an effort to clear cap space ahead of a potential trade involving Rodgers.

Zero2Cool (24-Jan) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (24-Jan) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (24-Jan) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
