What does Brett have to do with Clay?

The conditional pick we recieved from the Jets in exchange for Brett was the 83rd pick in the 3rd round. We traded that pick along with two more to get Clay. So some could say we traded Brett and got Matthews in return. I was hoping we'd hang onto that selection though.

That's my fault. I tried to rationalize the loss of the 2nd 3rd rounder with the fact that we got it for a player who retired so it was kind of a 'free' pick so to speak.

One of the stupidest moves I've ever seen. Sorry!

William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

Are we really talking about Favre again? He didn't just show up to camp like any other year. The guy said he retired cried on t.v. and the team moved on..Most other years Packers waited months until they knew if he was going to show up. He said he wanted to come back but they officially moved on and made other plans. Its not their fault Favre changed his mind. Ted Thompson didn't just say get out of here I don't want you no more. He even tried to pay Favre to just stay retired because he never just wanted to jus of him and trade him away. Do I truly know if that's what really happened no... We will never know the full story of what happened. So to sit and say that it is crazy how no one knows the true story like if you did is actually crazy. Thompson loves his mid round picks he wouldn't of traded them away if he knew their was a lot of talent in those rounds. Like many Thompson knew this years draft class was weak.

I've been following this draft since December.

I think we could of landed #26 with just one 3rd and 2nd... either that or I feel we could of landed clay at #41.. I hope he does really well though so I can eat my words..

I'm not trying to be negative but that's how I feel.. I really think we offered a lot.. but oh well. Hopefully we can get some steals tomorrow.

Sorry should been more specific..

let me re-phrase..

Why do we need to re hash the whole Brett retire un-retire, Ted sucks, Brett is selfish shit all over again????????

The Pack got a draft pick for him weather your anti Ted, anti Brett, or you just didn't care one way or the other.

OP's opinion was Clay would been there at 41, and we traded to move up to 26th, when 41 could have landed him..

Nope, he was going to be gone way before 41..

I HIGHLY doubt Clay would have lasted to the 30th pick much less then 26th

3 mocks with Clay gone before 31st pick

Clay going 12th

Clay 15th

We all know how much Ted loves to horde draft picks by the posters on forums,so if Ted did something so far out of the norm for him, something must be special about this guy

IMO the really only gave up one pick for him..Gave NE 3 picks but 2 in return and got a player they really wanted

Bit of a stretch, sure. I would have preferred to get Oher at 26 if he was around though.

Trade value

Thompson got the better value in his trade up into the first round to select outside linebacker Clay Matthews, according to one trade-value chart used by NFL teams.

The picks Thompson traded to New England (Nos. 41, 73 and 83) totaled 890 points, and the picks he received (Nos. 26 and 162) totaled 906.6 points. Thats a net gain of 16.6 points, or about the value of a late sixth-round pick.

We have a couple, three of them, Thompson said of the trade charts. Ones a composite thing of different ones, ones I think the original Cowboy one, and theres another one. We have (director of research and development) Mike Eayrs, who works in statistics and numbers and he does things like that.

"It wasnt a great trade, but it wasnt a horrible trade for us from a numbers standpoint. But again, it gets to how badly do you want the player?

Mel Kiper and Mooch on competing networks were asked who did they like on day one...Kiper and Mooch irrespective of each other...said the liked what Ted Thompson and the Packers did on day one of the draft...Not that Mooch or Kiper are experts or anything...wait a minute...YES THEY ARE!
Mooch and Kiper are the experts and we are Joe six packs...

Really...who are we...just...a bunch of folks who live and breath packer football...that doesn't make us experts...Kiper get paid the big bucks to be an expert...so...if the draft GURU likes what the packers did on day one...
Who the heck are we to gripe about it...we should be glad to have to first round picks...now...we will see if these picks pan out..it may be a year or two away...I say...hip hip hooray...two first rounders!!!
