Careful, this "old dude" your disagreeing with is part of this forums inner circle. You could be banned for jousting with him. He has a "Monopoly - Get out of jail free" card. Do you ?

You attacked me. Just like others are doing now. That’s not allowed on this site.....or at least it wasn’t back then.
I gave my points on the subject, and was called “a piece of s***”, by one person (who wasn’t banned) and an “idiot” and “mentally challenged” by another (also not banned).
Then the fact that I’m disabled was their next point of attack. They don’t know me, yet judge me. I worked my ass off for years. I worked in a lead factory around furnaces that were 900 to 1000 degrees. I got sick, did NOT ask for disability. My doctor pulled me out of work. I was sent by the state to multiple doctors, to specialists, to a hospital for a specific tests. I never had to appeal their decision. THEY put it through. I am collecting money I put in for years.
I wish I could get the same “we don’t judge” card that people that commit crimes get.
In the past people here could disagree and still be respectful of the other person. Now there is no civil interaction. At least not from the other side.
But go ahead, blame others for what YOU did. That seems to be the theme now adays. Take no responsibility for your own actions.

Jousting is fine....bullying and attacking is not.

Interesting review of the history of the many bad decisions the country has made over the years with respect to race. I think it is worth a listen.

It is really sad how slaveowners manipulated the laws in the first half of the twentieth century and how the consequences of those actions still are visible today. His preachy end to the video is a bit cringe to me but I guess it speaks to the complexity of the issue and how there are no easy solutions. It is also worth pointing out that, despite its past, the United States has done more than most countries for freedom and equality. It is truly a blessing to be part of this country in the 21st century.

If one expects to eradicate and seek justice for all of the evils from Mankind, they will never be happy.

You are very confident with your capital F facts yet your citations are biased and are sloppy with the numbers.

By all means, feel free to provide better citations and more accurate numbers and reports if you feel there is some issue with the ACLU's reporting.

Does this mean that 100,000 documented possession incidents occurred, for both blacks and whites and that the police let off the white guys in higher frequency?

No, and nobody is suggesting that it does, it's a comparison of arrests specifically. Per 100,000 is the standard way to represent per-capita statistics. It's how data is normalized in any remotely competent report. Quick napkin math: 716 out of 100,000 means there were roughly 336,520 marijuana arrests vs a black population of about 47 million. This is a very large sample size and it's easy to see how disproportionate black vs white arrests are for marijuana offenses.

When the numbers skew so heavily towards black arrests, knowing how many white vs black people were caught with drugs and not arrested is not going to change the conclusion in a meaningful way - though you can find reports on these topics too (spoiler: white people are more likely to get off with warnings or probation vs prison time for the same crimes).

Further, the report is unfocused and can't seem to make up its mind whether it is making an issue of drug criminalization or racism.

It's both, these issues are intertwined. The overarching issue is how racism (in policing, in prosecution, etc) drives increased incarceration for a marginalized group, which contributes to further marginalization of said group.

Your graph on incarceration rates is laughable and reminds me of this comic

It's telling that you object to the presentation style of the graph rather than the data it represents. This was a random google image search. Here is another graph:

https://www.apa.org/monitor/2014/10/incarceration

Again, the US has a much higher rate of incarceration than any other developed western nation. Only Russia comes close and we're significantly higher still. Even if you disagree that race plays a prominent role, and even if you disagree that drug criminalization is a problem, what is the justification for having incarceration rates that are 4.77x higher than the UK?

(PS: I use the UK as an example because they are culturally very similar to us as a nation, as is Canada who have even lower rates than the UK.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_incarceration_rate  - most lists I find seem to report the US numbers fairly consistently. Russia's numbers seem to be all over the board, as of a 2020 report  they were almost as high as the US, but appear to be about half on this list. As per Wiki's list, we're on par with (a bit higher than) countries like El Salvador and Rwanda.

That way they can ignore him.

There’s too much straight forward honesty in that video for some to handle.

Lol Jesus Christ. Yes, you can find one black guy to say racism isn't a problem. You can find one idiot to say vaccines cause autism. It's not hard to find singular looneys to support your view if you go out looking for them. There's a whole group of people who think the world is flat, making a youtube video doesn't make it true.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
