Daniels was like Lang, when healthy, they can still play at the elite level.... they're just not staying healthy as often as they've gotten older... and I still think this is more about creating cap room and opportunities for the young talented players with potential that Gute thinks will be able to step up if given the room to step into a larger role.

But also OLBers Za’Darius Smith and Rashan Gary both have the size to line up at the 3 tech in pass rush situations as well.

That's a lot of freaking potential talent that might be able to step up if given the opportunity. As some have suggested, potential talent could tank, but with that much potential the law of averages suggest at least one of them should be able to step up.

We have no idea what they will do except for Clark and maybe Lowry.

By cutting Daniels, we freed up some cap space. For who? A RB that nobody else wanted and a DL who may or may not pan out? Sorry, I just don’t stand behind this move.

They don't need the money for the RB and young DL whom are on cheap rookie contracts, so suggesting it's for them is a clear red herring.

You actually answered your own question before asking the question, it frees up money for resigning Clark and Lowry.

Maybe the young guys will step up, maybe they won’t.

I’m a Gutekunst fan, but I don’t agree with this move (or letting Cobb go).

Daniels wasn't used much last season. Clark has been getting better each year and like only 23. It's best to get rid of guys year too soon than too late.

And again, the Packers weren't really using him the same under Pettine.

This will be a great move if Lowry, Keke, Gary and the rest of the young guys step up and help Clark lock down the run.

The Packers don't improve, then this will become a terrible move.

Time will tell.

Gutey's 1st year FA moves didn't pan out well, lets hope this years class of FA's show a lot better.

Then we’re down to players who haven’t played enough to know much of anything about them.

And I know your not talking about me because Lancaster played enough last year that I know what we're getting when he gets on the field... he can be a good NT and Clark or Lowry can move to 3 tech... and Packers are using Z. Smith at the 3 tech on passing downs.

The jury is still out on the rest sure, but we're talking about 4th guy on a unit that usually only has two on the field, usually the 4th guy is unproven and they got more upside potential than most 4th guys.

I liked Daniels too, and thought it would be smart to keep him as well, but big multi-season view this could potentially be a very good move. Otherwise you're saying the exact same things next year, because they didn't get a shot to get on the field this year.
