In his first year as having direct responsibility for the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, CEO Mark Murphy fired Mike McCarthy. Now, Murphy will hire his replacement. Monday's press conference explaining the decision to make a change made it clear that Murphy will be making the decision. However, he'll do it with active [more]

I finally got the chance to listen to the Murphy/Gute press conference....observations:
- they handled the firing with class
- they are tired of the 'structure question':
- In any 'normal' team scenario, a GM is going to need to get a approval from the 'owner' on the hire anyway.
- Both guys have to like the candidate. Our situation is only slightly different...its a distinction without a difference.
- I give Murphy credit for having the stones to step up and wear the big boy pants, instead of waiting and blaming Gute if it doesn't work.
- Murphy's ass is on the line with the selection
- I think they believe our people, especially on the offensive side of the ball, are a helluva lot better than I do.
- Rodgers, Daniels, Williams, Bhaktiari, or any other veteran can opine on candidates or desired attributes
- Gute believes Mike McCarthy lost the locker room
- For whatever reason, they really don't want to talk about Pettine...which is odd to me

Also, I wish they would do a better job mic'ing up the press so we could hear the questions.

I just have this funny feeling about Arians. I think he would like to put in 3-4 years...about the same time period as Rodgers. He has the ego, reputation, and resume to coach 12 up.

On another pleasant note, did anyone hear Rodgers in his comments that he was WITH HIS PARENTS at his home when he found out. I was happy to hear that.

If we went with an "older" guy I would definitely like to see Arians. I have swore often because of this dude. I think if there is a guy who would take no shit from a QB who may need to be "coached" he is they guy.

Just like was said about Josh McDaniels and Tom Brady, if either one dislikes a play, they both have veto power and it's automatically thrown out and they go to other plays... this sounds like the same thing, so both Murphy and Gute have veto power. It's smart and better than either one having full control of this choice.

Yeah, I'm a bit nervous about the Pettine thing... though not wanting to talk about him, actually gives me some hope they want to keep him and not to raise any attention to him, just like they did with Rus Ball for years, until there was a chance he might get a promotion or something might change, so I'm kinda hoping this means, they're hoping nothing with change on him (but that's clearly me reaching and using an assumption).

Nope, I didn't hear about the Parents, thanks for pointing that out.

Not sure what kind of coach they will get if he isnt allowed to hire his staff.

Does this mean that Philbin and Pettine are gone at the end of this year?

Most likely the rest of the coaching staff will be fired.

Sounda to me Murphy is going to continue this power trip at the expense of The Packers!

No veteran coach is going to come to Green Bay, and what kind of respect will a young noname get from veteran players?

I don't know. The veterans on the Rams squad seem to respect Sean McVay just fine.

I don't fully trust any one person, which is why I like the teamwork, and both Murphy and Gute seem more like football guys, more than say a Bruce Allen, which I don't trust at all.

So if we're talking about partial staff, I think it happens a lot more than one would think.

Hopefully Pettine and the defensive staff that he wants is kept... though seems like LB coach Moss has been pissy and rough with the media all season... maybe after not getting a promotion? He might need to go, if he's not happy.

Zero2Cool (9h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (11h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (12h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (13h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you
wpr (13h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (13h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (13h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (13h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (14h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (14h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (14h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (14h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (14h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
