These players are not poor, and the existing model is not equitable for the players themselves- the rooks are sucking WAY too much out of their "side" of the financial pie. That is SO obvious, to me at least.

I 100% agree, but the agents whom have the current players ears will be missing out on those large rookie paydays..

In addition.. a rookie pay scale would eliminate some of the pressures at the NCAA level by agents.. because the dollars in the draft would be considerably less.

God forbid the agents have to work a little harder, be a little better at their job than riding the coattails of what a young inexperienced athlete can net them before they hit the field.

Rookies making a ton of money before they ever do anything to earn it.
That is one of the things that bugs me the most.
A 1st round bust makes enough money to live off the rest of his life, while a 7th rounder that bust's his ass has to work several years to get a good contract.
Is that fair?

Look at Wisconsin's Jim Leonard. Undrafted he has had to fight for a roster spot every season and makes only the minimum.

Compare to Jamarcus Russell who never had to do anything in the NFL and pocketed over 20 million dollars. Most teams think it is foolish to trade up for a top 5 draft pick.

The problem with post season performance pay adjustment systems is the injury question. I wouldn't want to negatively impact guys like Burnett and Neal. Yet if you don't penalize Burnett and Neal how do you penalize Harrell?

It would take a formula as complex as the QB rating to determine compensation for initial contracts and allowing exceptions to the salary cap.

heavily incentive laden contracts for rookies. Active for games, play in games, start games, post season, awards, probowl, performance, in camp on time etc. The better they are, the more incentives they qualify for. That way, no matter where you are drafted, you can play yourself into a big contract. Shields would make more than Burnette instead of less.

agreed. I was going to say they have to allow for a rookie who starts to earn more than a rookie who sits on the bench for a couple of years. (Sanchez started as a rookie for the Jets and Rodgers didn't.)

Then they have to factor positions. (player positions and position in the draft.) A high 2nd round QB could make more than a low 1st round TE.

Out of curiosity, wonder how many other teams sent similar letters out?

Was it a requirement, or just Mark wanted to keep his fans in the loop?

I was listening to the pre game show yesterday on the radio. While they were doing the segment with Hub Arkush, they asked Hub about the letter. I got the impression that GB was the only franchise to send a letter to their season ticket holders. Hub didn't exactly say they were the only ones it was just how he talked about the letter that gave me that impression.

What I like - more money to retirees and less to unproven rookies.

What I don't like - 18 game season.

As I was reading your post I remembered Hub saying that the 2 sides are not even close on the 4 major points of contention.
they will probably drag their feet on this until well past "the eleventh hour" and then rush to get a deal completed.
