I think Nick just wants a phone call from Ted Thompson to feel wanted on the team 😛 But seriously isn't it funny how players are looked upon. Just a few months ago everyone was saying how great Collins was and he needs to have his contract extended but now that he isn't showing up for strength and conditioning those same people are putting him down. Makes me wonder if you same people would say the same thing about Jennings if he does this?

To be totally honest i think Greg is going to try free agency and we will lose him. Something isn't right with whats going on he already refused to discuss his contract last season, it be could the smoke before the fire.

But c'mon guys stop flip flopping you are starting to get worse than Skip Bayless. Have faith Ted Thompson will take care of these guys.

ie things seem so political where we just want to see football

example - my comment wasnt just directed at collins its directed toward all peeps whom want to renig on contract. If he just wants ted to talk to him then thats cool; I TOTALLY agree; ted should be talking to guys whom are great players and where their contract is soon up ... ie jennings collins etc ...

ya and they need to think what happens when they resign players that were only subpar (imo - bush) for a decent chunk of change. Makes other great players think.

Good post. I think most of us put the Packers above any of the players. Jennings is popular, but we'd survive. Over the last fifteen years we've been through quite a few 1,000 yard receivers. Maybe it's the offense?

As for Collins, I don't think his is in the Ed Reed, Polamulu (sp) league and shouldn't be payed as if he were. His escalators are appropriate for this year. I guess the Packers will get pocket a little fine money, and Collins certainly will be the first to blink.

Maybe we are all just jumping the gun here on the reason for him not there this week... maybe the contract talk is just a vent more than anything?

Couldn't be that the writer is just looking for a headline?

Wait....

Green Bay Packers safety Nick Collins is not participating in the team's off-season conditioning program, but it's unclear whether it's a protest over a lack of negotiations on a new contract extension.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Collins is home in Florida with his wife, waiting for the birth of their third child. The club is aware why he is not there. Collins is expected to report for the off-season conditioning workouts after his child is born.

However, Collins and his agent have been frustrated by a lack of interest on the Packers' part to negotiate a contract extension and it's possible Collins will take his time before reporting to the workouts. During the team's Fan Fest last week, Collins said he intended to take part in the off-season conditioning program so that he could begin learning the 3-4 system.

The Packers have put Collins, whose contract expires after this season, on hold, setting the re-signing of receiver Greg Jennings as a higher priority. It appears the Packers have put at least two other players ahead of Collins on the list of those whose contracdts need to be addressed. More than likely one of them is cornerback Tramon Williams.

Thanks for sharing the info. Makes me feel far more charitable than just a moment ago.

Why would you even wonder that? It implies you think people are wishy washy and that's very rude to assume amongst a large group of people.

If Greg Jennings were to avoid off season workouts solely because his agent and the Packers are not in immediate discussions about a contract extension, my comments would be the same. With the exception that Jennings needs to be in to learn as much as he can with the new scheme.

Any player who is NOT familiar with the 3 0 4 needs to be getting as much education and reps on it as possible, I.E. SHOW UP FOR EVERYTHING!

It's really simple.

Exactly what I have been saying. He needs to be in to learn, just as he WANTS to be doing. Nick Collins is learning from Charles Woodson who is a study freak and Nick credits that to his success last year.

I disagree that any player's contract extension is a higher priority than Greg Jennings.

If this does become a money matter, as long as he doesn't take it to the media like Javon Walker and Mike McKenzie did and demand a trade, then I think he has every right to sit out.

He played well last year. He was a playmaker. He might not be as good as people think. I certainly don't believe he's an elite safety, but he's a solid starter and for that reason, GB should be looking to keep him.

I like Collins as a player, and he seems like a good guy. The dude is a physical freak who displayed those skills in full last season. However, there were also numerous breakdowns in coverage communication, which was/is Collins' responsibility.

From what I have heard, the cerebral demands of the safety position, particularly the FS, in the 3-4 scheme are very high. I wonder if the team is questioning his ability to do all the things that will be asked of him in the new cheme, and want to get a glimpse before spending the huge money it will take to keep him long-term.

Just a thought......

I bashed the heck out of him this morning too, until I read about the baby thing. Either way, as soon as the baby comes, he needs to be in camp.

The fact that he is even talking about it still angers me. He needs to string together two solid years, before we start talking "elite" or "freak" here.
