Seems to be more likely to have a clause that triggers an adjustment (see: Raise) than an opt out. No way we let him ever become a free agent.

Where did you get "not finishing his career in Green Bay" from him talking about hoping to have a fairy-tale ending with this team?

I wouldn't get too hung up in the rumors. Aaron Rodgers' agent and financial team are simply doing their job, which is to maximize Aaron Rodgers' value. I'm sure it will all work out in the end to be what most expect, which is a hefty average annual salary that will likely carry Aaron Rodgers through at least the next 4-5 years. With his style of play, I doubt he last much longer than that anyway.

Maybe Rodgers is holding out for a “sanity clause” in his contract, like Groucho and Chico Marx did in their one movie......to which Chico remarked ,
“You canna no fool me! There IS no Sanity Claus!”😂

I could see Rodgers wanting a "out" in the next 3-5 years. Let's say he desperately wants one more Super Bowl, and the Packers organization simply isn't in a position to go all-in for one to be a serious competitor. Instead of being stuck playing his last couple seasons for a team that has no chance of winning the Super Bowl, he might want the option of going to a team that's willing to risk it and go for it. Fair enough, imo. If Aaron Rodgers retires with only one Super Bowl, it will be a tragedy indeed.

That’s true, Dodd. I think that’s why they changed GMs. To have a guy that is willing to try to do more NOW to get the team over the top.
This year will show if it made a huge difference or not.

You gonna pay a guy to suck all the money out of your cap and then go elsewhere to a team that “still has a chance?”

I doubt this would ever happen, or if the NFLPA would stand for such a thing if it did happen, but it would be fun to see the putative option clause tied to Super Bowl wins. Win one Super Bowl, you get an option for the last year of your contract. Win two, you get an option in the last two seasons. If I'm Rodgers' agent, of course, I'm asking, "What are you going to do to ensure this team has a realistic chance at a Super Bowl?"

beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
