One of my earliest experiences with Swag was TBuck. He kind of soured me on the whole concept.

Buckley while a disappointment in Green Bay stayed in the league another decade after leaving the Packers, he had some good years down in Miami.

He started off wrong, finished pretty damn well though.

Listening to Jaire Alexander talk, I don't see an ounce of Buckley's attitude in him at all and the dude looks just like he belongs on the field, looks so comfortable out there like its HIS playground.

My thoughts-
1. You need to post more often. Your comments are very articulate.
2. "Swag" players have to walk a fine line. One of my earliest experiences with Swag was TBuck. He kind of soured me on the whole concept. I have seen too many players go for the INT and miss. The receiver then gets 10, 20 maybe 50 yards. Being conservative has some advantages in that you avoid the big play. But it has its disadvantages too in that you don't stop the offense and get off the field often enough.
3. If he or any player is going to go for the big play I sure hope they have had adequate communication with the other members of the backfield. It has been sadly lacking on too many occasions in the past few years. I just hate watching these guys stand around looking at each other wondering who was supposed to do what.
4. Post more comments.

You could point towards Terrell Buckley's outlandish claims and make the argument that such over-confidence was in fact masking his lack of it in himself. Often times, when we don't believe something within ourselves, but feel we have something to prove; we double down and raise the stakes. Problem is, Terrell Buckley tried to set the bar so high, it had an adverse effect on his hopes of ever reaching it. I never got that sense when listening to Jaire speak.

In regards to point 3, I don't mind if he takes a chance here and there and misreads a jump on a route. It's bound to happen, you just hope that his judgement is sound enough so that it happens less often than it does more. Remember that infamous Seahawks and Packer's playoff game? No, not the one where we systematically deconstructed because we stopped taking chances and tried to play the game out conservatively - The one where Matt Hasselbeck promised victory. That one. Al Harris took a chance and jumped the route and on our way we went. He plays that more conservatively, and there's a good chance they nickle and dime us down and take a field goal to win it. There's also a chance he misreads that jump and that short pass takes them down the field and ends in the same result. That variable is why we watch football though. It's part of what makes it so exciting.

And hey, in the event that he misreads a play.....a 4.38 forty goes a long way in helping you get back in position 😛.

I'm excited to watch these guys ball.

Not sure what the doom and gloom is all about. He is a rookie. He is going to learn. Kid is f'ing fast. I like his confidence. Most pro athletes have a huge ego, I love he has self-confidence. If you don't you might as well stick to rec league.

Packers pick invites paralles to Terrell Buckley. Is that good or bad?

When the Green Bay Packers selected Jaire Alexander out of Louisville in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft Thursday, it was easy to draw comparisons to 1992 draft choice Terrell Buckley.

Both were undersized cornerbacks, and both were taken by Packers general managers making their first draft choices.

Ron Wolf, who chose Buckley at No. 5 overall in his first draft, supposedly made the decision to up the minimum height requirement for any Packers cornerback draft selection to 5-11 after Buckley (5-9) struggled in his first few years in the NFL.

Current general manager Brian Gutekunst appeared to eschew that philosophy when he chose Alexander (5-10 1/4) with the 18th overall choice.

I've always felt that Jason Garrett owes Buckley a large portion of his career earnings for torching him during the 1994 Thanksgiving game in Dallas by simply throwing the ball over his head. Without Buckley, I'm convinced Garrett doesn't last half as long as he does in the league and never goes on to coach. Even more galling about that game was the announcers relating a story heard from Garrett during the week before the game that Garretts mom suggested he just throw the ball high over Buckley. You know you're in trouble when the backup QBs mom sees your weakness and makes suggestions like that.

Putting aside Terrell Buckley horror stories, I like Alexander and I like his confidence and swag or whatever you want to call it. Yeah, it's a problem when someone is celebrating when down 30 and getting burnt all game. I guess I'm tired of watching our guys looking confused and dejected and always reacting to whatever the offense is doing. It always felt like any aggressive tendencies were smothered under Dom. With Pettine and a guy like Alexander, I feel like that's about to change. I can't remember a defense in this league that was successful and meek at the same time.

Another way of putting it to use a Mike Tyson quote, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." Since the Super Bowl win, this D has been getting punched in the mouth and it's past time for that to change. I want this D to start doing the punching and you need guys like Alexander for that. You need his speed to make QBs to pay for mistakes. You need his cover skills to send guys on the blitz. And if we do get punched in the mouth lets hope that self confidence and swagger is there to respond because like Kanata said, if you don't have self confidence, you might as well not be in the league.

Let's do a little flashback

Sept. 20th 1992.
The mighty Bengals roll into Green Bay.
1991 AFC. Champions, losing a heartbreaker in The Super Bowl to the 49rs.

The Bengals already a heavy favorite , almost assured victory by knocking out everybody's favorite Packer, starting QB Don Majkowski.

With the Majic Man gone, any hope for victory went with him as he was carried off the field.

The game became ugly, to The Packers credit they did not give up.

Late in the 3rd quarter down 23-10 The defense stiffened and forced a Bengal punt deep in their own territory.

A much maligned(mostly his own doing) Terrel Buckley fields the punt at his own 42 and scampered 58 yards for a Packer TD.

The Packers still down 6 watched with fans as Majic's replacement, some kid named Favre or Favor couldn't get out of his own way, generating nothing on offense.

Undeterred, The Packers D held The Mighty Bengals scoreless.

Forcing them to punt with a little over a minute to go in the game.

The rest as they say is history!

A legend was born that day, but without Terrell Buckleys punt return for a TD , it may never have happened .

I hope Alexander does have Buckleys punt return skills.

I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Casey Hayward is doing pretty well with the Chargers and isn't a huge guy. I wonder how he compares:

-Casey Hayward - 5'11, 185 lbs, 4.57 second forty, 30.25" arms, 6.76 second 3-cone drill, 19 reps on bench
-Jaire Alexander - 5'10 and 1/4", 196 lbs, 4.38 forty, 31 1/8" arms, 6.71 second 3-cone drill, 35" vertical jump, 14 reps on the bench

Edit: Add Sam Shields

-Sam Shields - 5'11", 184 lbs, 4.30 second forty, 6.70 second 3-cone, 15 reps on bench, 39" vertical jump

beast (24-Jan) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
