All in all a nice pick up for GB. Trade down still get your guy and pick up a 1st round pick for next year for the price of a 3rd. Not too bad.

Was a good day 1 for the Packers, they got some nice value in the trade with New Orleans and still got the #2 CB in the draft. I didn't read up on Jaire Alexander before the draft but he seems to have alot of the same moxy that Ward has. Also the hand + knee injuries that derailed his final year at Louisville are pretty minor he should have no lingering effects for 2018.

I think most fans knew the Packers had too many picks so they were either going to package them to move up or trade for future (2019) picks. This was a good way of accomplishing that. I still expect the Packers to move back into the 3rd round by trading some of those 4th/5th rounders they've stockpiled.

I think this matters more than an inch or so.

I read somewhere he had an above average wingspan for someone his size.

Arm Length:

Jaire Alexander 31 1/8"
Denzel Ward 31 1/4"
Mike Hughes 30 7/8"

All 3 were drafted in the 1st and have similar height (5'10-5'11)

Sure is a lot of hype around this kid.

I think this says something good about Jaire's character here.

My thoughts on the first round:

At the height of the draft hype about month or so ago, I wanted Denzel Ward. The more I researched and absorbed however, I began to want Jaire about two weeks ago. Let's be honest, Jaire and Denzel are very similar. Similar measurables, similar play style and skills. What I feel Jaire has OVER Ward is that it factor. That swag. His confidence really excites me. He's going to make some big plays for us. My dream scenario for the first round was to nab Jaire, and trade back into the end of the 1st round and grab a edge rusher in Harold Landry or Marcus Davenport if either of them were there. Now at the end of the first round, we have Jaire - still have a chance to get Landry on day 2, and picked up an extra 1st rounder along the way. I don't know how any Packer fan could possibly be disappointed in this. I feel like our execution on Day 1 was MASTERFUL. Ted 2.0? Nah. Welcome to the house of Gute Wizardry.

2. "Swag" players have to walk a fine line. One of my earliest experiences with Swag was TBuck. He kind of soured me on the whole concept. I have seen too many players go for the INT and miss. The receiver then gets 10, 20 maybe 50 yards. Being conservative has some advantages in that you avoid the big play. But it has its disadvantages too in that you don't stop the offense and get off the field often enough.
3. If he or any player is going to go for the big play I sure hope they have had adequate communication with the other members of the backfield. It has been sadly lacking on too many occasions in the past few years. I just hate watching these guys stand around looking at each other wondering who was supposed to do what.
4. Post more comments.

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
