I'm curious, since we all are clearly not happy with the 6-10 record last year, does anyone remember what FA's/players we were pushing for Thompson to go after and get in early 2008?

I remember one. Chris Simms. There was a ton of talk about how the Packers should get Simms. Where is that stellar QB right now? He lasted a year in Tennessee as a useless backup. Now he's riding the pine in Denver, and even with the Cutler fiasco, nobody wants to hand him the reins there, even temporarily.

Want some names...

Fernando Bryant
Boss Bailey
Micheal Boley
Warrick Dunn
Trent Green
Takeo Spikes
Joey Harrington
Duante Culpepper
Javon Kearse
David Carr
Alge Crumpler
Corey Smith
Lance Briggs
Astana Samuel...

They all had thread around the first couple weeks of FA last season... sorry didn't read through all threads for more names.. lol.

Briggs would have been a difference maker. I don't think that was ever a possibility though, and it would have been a HUGE price tag.

Asante Samuel, good player but Tramon Williams' emergence proves (I think) that it wouldn't have had any effect except on our salary figures.

Maybe Kearse, with the Jenkins injury? I don't know though... he only had 3.5 sacks last year, i.e. 1 more sack than Montgomery, and many less tackles.

Maybe Takeo Spikes...

Certainly not Crumpler.

That's fine and I apologize for my cry baby comment, but here's a suggestion: create a subforum for Ted bashing so every thread in here doesn't get hijacked into the same boring argument. Then you mods can do your job and move these threads, and those of us who are fed up with the Ted bashing can easily ignore the topic.

Apparently it really is that hard to accept that DH is a hardcore anti Ted believer and the majority of the forum is able to see both the good things Ted has accomplished here and some of the shortcomings of this team and try to talk sensibly to them.

I fail to understand both the hardcore Ted haters and those that take offense to the slightest bit of criticism towards the man.. he is man isn't he.

But I will agree that overall the entire freaking theme of debating the job Ted has done becomes tiresome and repugnant.

Here's a little piece of perspective on perspective.

I submit that just about everyone here takes this whole Green Bay Packer thing real serious. Many of us assign various motivations to the decisions made by our front office, and we personalize and/or rationalize those decisions as we see fit.

Sometimes my initial reaction to a decision made by Ted (and co., btw) is:

WHAT IS HE THINKING!!!!!

Then I think to myself, What is he thinking?

This seems to calm me down on the whole Ted Thompson thing, more often than not.

I'm willing to bet that just about all of us would agree that if Ted Thompson (and co., btw) pull off a SuperBowl utilizing their present course of action...however unlikely some/all might think that to be...we would be:

A: Thrilled beyond imagination.

B: The most obnoxiously boisterous pack of know-it-alls on the internet.

(I can just hear us now..."And we didn't even TRY to BUY our Superbowl, unlike you assholes in [insert NFL city here]...well, at least that's how I would be :thumbleft: )

It's pretty much impossible to discuss Thompson's work without discussing Thompson.

Exactly. Just like before TT, there was a lot of emotion, good or bad, towards Sherman's decisions. I was mad at Mike for punting on 4th and 1 which would have prevented the 4th and 26th. That was Mike's decision. I know it pained BF to not go for it. You could see it on his face.

On the flip side, he gave us one heck of an Offense.

The same goes for any decision, good or bad, that Ted Thompson makes. It affects the Packers and being Packer fans, we get all emo about it, good or bad.

Here's the way i see it with TT.
When i think he does well, i say so. When i think he screwed up, i say so.

I think what is missing with MANY of the posters is BALANCE.

NO ONE is going to get everything right. NOT ONE GM in the NFL does.
Those that seem to think Ted Thompson is "Matt Millen" are WAY off base. I also don't think Ted Thompson has reached the level of Ron Wolf yet, either. Although i think he has done better then many GM's, he's not the best.....yet. He may turn out to be so, or he may crash and burn. But fact is, it takes time to rebuild a team that has lost ALL it's players from the mid 1990's when we were so good.
I think this coming season will tell which way we are headed. But to act like Ted Thompson is an idiot because of last years record is insane. The defense and ST's let us down all season, where if you remember, the PREVIOUS season our D and ESPECIALLY ST's scored often to pull out close games. That was sorely missing last year, and it cost us MANY games.

And MM's conservative play calling cost us alot too. You have to have that "killer instinct" to finish off your opponent. And Mike McCarthy didn't have that last year. THAT needs to change.
