Interesting, why would Gutekunst interview with the 49ers if he wasn't going to take the job? Wonder what happened there.

Also, regarding Gutekunst being a home run, they are saying John Schneider would have been the grand slam candidate.

On that story the rumor was that Gutekunst had questions/concerns about their chain of command ... but it didn't hurt that Gutekunst and Wolf both reportedly got new contracts ($$$$) when they dropped out.

But since the 49ers were basically destroyed by infighting between GM and HC... the owner has decided to be a little creative in their chain of command... where neither is the other ones boss and maybe other things as well.

It sounds like the Packers organization was looking for a frontman who could actually speak with the media. In other words, someone whose personality was the antithesis of Ted "Cadaverous" Thompson's. That makes sense to me from a public relations and business standpoint. How it will translate to success on the field remains to be seen.

Brian Gutekunst ? Not knowing much about him, I just hope that he is not Ted Thompson's and Russ Ball's puppet to control. I hope that he will be his own man and if that means asking either Ball or Thompson to leave, then I'd stand behind such a decision.

Change should alter the Status Quo, if it does not, then why did you change ?

I wish Brian Gutekunst (BG) and the Packers success moving forward. [thumbup]

I couldn't care less if the GM is open to the media. I want to know the whys/hows as much as anyone but I want a tight ship that produces winners even more. I can put up with 3 fewer press conferences if it theoretically meant it gave the Packers a leg up by keeping 1265 operations under wraps.
