This will be the second such interview this offseason for the Packers’ front office exec. In January, two prominent members of the Green Bay Packers ’ front office received interviews for a vacant General Manager job. The San Francisco 49ers brought in both Director—Football Operations Eliot Wolf and Director of Player Personnel Brian Gutekunst for interviews. Each earned a second interview before the team eventually selected former NFL safety and broadcaster John Lynch for the job.
Now, Gutekunst is getting another GM job interview. As Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports , that interview is coming with the Buffalo Bills .
In a shocking move, the Bills’ owners fired GM Doug Whaley and the team’s entire scouting staff almost immediately following the 2017 NFL Draft . They are now trolling through a list of GM candidates across the league, and although Gutekunst is respected around the NFL, the favorite at this time appears to be Panthers assistant GM Brandon Beane. Beane recently got a second interview in Buffalo.
Gutekunst has held various positions with the Packers since 1998, working in the college scouting department exclusively up until 2016, when he was promoted to his current position as Director of Player Personnel.
