The Seahawks have reportedly denied the Green Bay Packers permission to speak to general manager John Schneider, but can they do that?

I believed he was correct... since the NFL has seen the control of the 53 man roster as a promotion, in theory the Seahawks should not be able to block GM Schneider (with no control of the 53 man roster) from interviewing for a job with control of the 53 man roster.

The Packers also could argue that they should be allowed to interview Schneider because the job could be viewed as a promotion, since Schneider and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll share responsibilities in player acquisition. In Green Bay, the general manager has full authority over all football decisions, including the draft, free agency and hiring and firing of the coach.

Schneider would be the preferred choice of many in the organization, including some already in the scouting department, and coach Mike McCarthy.

True, cannot be blocked if it’s a promotion.

Suggests that Mike wants say in who gets signed or drafted. OR it suggests that Schneider doesn’t WANT to come here, but doesn’t want to come right out and say it.

Facts only please. Nobody knows what's going on with Schneider so we shouldn't discuss without all the facts. Forum should shutdown until Packers.com posts the official word.

Let's see how hard the org pushes to get Schneider. I have a feeling it'll be about as hard as that goalline play in the SB vs. Denver.

I read somewhere the NFL doesn't want to go down that slippery slope of whether it's considered a promotion or not.

Couldn't care less that MM wants Schneider. That's his buddy. I want Schneider but MM is the coach and should stay in his lane.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Reggie McKenize probably knew he wasn't losing any control, which was the main reason people thought he might jump ship back to the Packers.

Does this much blocking happen to other teams?
