No way Ted keeps 7 WRs again this year. That was a fluke last year given the roster composition and the flexibility of Montgomery.
So, WHICH five do we keep?
Given the lack of proven depth, Davante is really the only lock.
Nelson and Cobb have a strong edge to make the 53, but neither has been what they once were. Is it worth it to keep a guy whose skills have eroded if we have to cut a guy who can play but needs a year in the system? After all, it takes a year to develop a rookie in this system. Cobb is young and "has Aaron's trust," so he has an edge. Jordy has alot of experience, but if he doesn't show he can get it done on the outside, he could be on the way out. Don't discount the possibility of a trade either. Ted's got extra guys, he'd love a mid to late round pick for them.
I really like the rookies Yancey and Dupree. But if we keep Nelson and Cobb, there's only two more spots for a WR. Especially with all the TE depth this year. We don't need a bunch of wideouts.
Montgomery makes the team, because they can rationalize him as an RB slash type guy.
Trevor Davis has to show he added bulk in the offseason, can go over the middle and run routes. We already know he can get deep. Fielding punts would go a long way towards solidifying a spot.
Then there's the great white hype, Jeff Janis. Can he learn the playbook? What is this is third or fourth year? Time to shit or get off the pot dude. And oh yeah, learn to catch over your shoulder and with your hands, increase that catch radius. Tons of potential here, IF he can put it all together.
Who am I forgetting? There's at least one UFDA I liked.
