If GB were to replace Ted Thompson , just who is it that hires and fires the GM in GB ? Would that be the Executive Committee ? If so , would they not have several candidates to choose from ? I would think at least 3 would make the finals list . They would be fully researched and investigated . They may like / want a particular type of management style . Interviews would be held . Votes would be taken by the committee . A process that could take weeks .

And the process could be fairly short, if Murphy indeed has a plan in place like he claims. As reportedly Thompson has already told him when he's going to step down (my random guess has always been at the end of his current contract, which all the way through the 2018 season.  So we may have a new GM for the 2019 draft.

I'm just not sure of their thoughts of Eliot Wolf, is he getting the job? If so, then why is he interviewing for other GM spots? (then again, he got a promotion out of it, so maybe that's why)? Some have speculated Russ Ball, but it seems he's always been under Football Administration side of things, and never Player Personnel... and I would think you'd want a guy with Player Personnel experience in the GM role.

If he has to check in with someone else and get their approval, they don't need him.

It's possible he may use someone as a sounding board for what he plans to do but even that is his call.

But I believe the Packers President has the completely authority to do it by himself if he wanted to. Now, from what little I've heard about Mark Murphy, doing it by himself has never seemed to be his style of running the business, as he seems to like to get input from others as well (which sounds the opposite of Dorsey). I assume that Murphy has also gotten input from Ted Thompson and maybe Mike McCarthy, and maybe the board.

Again, I'm not sure of this, as it was before my time and I just thought I read about it at some point. But I thought I read that former Packers' President Judge Robert J. Parins, was the guy that changed how things ran in Green Bay, which included stopping the boards from being the ones that hired the football people (such as GM and head coach)... as the boards kept hiring former star players, who struggled at coaching, to be the Packers head coaches.

From what little I've heard on Mark Murphy style, he likes having a sounding board as you put it. As Ted Thompson and Mark Murphy have both talked about how it's great they can bounce ideas off of each other... which I can only assume especially happens when it came to something like who's Murphy going to hire to follow Thompson.
