Eagles | One-year deal offered to Dawkins
Fri, 27 Feb 2009 09:04:07 -0800

Updating previous reports, MyFOXPhilly.com reports the Philadelphia Eagles have offered what is believed to be a one-year deal to free-agent S Brian Dawkins.

WTF Teddy he would be a great addition and plays mean and brings an attitude to the field.

Ravens | Lewis will not return?
Fri, 27 Feb 2009 09:04:15 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports sources close to unrestricted free-agent LB Ray Lewis (Ravens) said he will not re-sign with the Baltimore Ravens.

Pull the damn trigger Teddy after all it's not your damn money to use on your vacations.

Add both of those guys and our defense would be solid just like that and have the leadership you want.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Other teams are probably shying from Dawkins because they know he'll be back in Philadelphia. The 13-year pro has spent his entire career there.

I would like him to come here, but maybe it's already a done deal.

It still sucks to not have our team even mentioned. I'm glad he doesn't overpay, but it's fun to actually think we might be interested in someone.

I get a kick out of how people complain about every other player that gets signed by other teams but when Ted Thompson gets deals done with Jennings, Kampman, Collins, Pickett and SEVERAL guys whose contracts come up next year as well will be earmarked as "doing his job."

We sign a Ray Lewis type contract and you can count on about three good players we will lose in the next year because the money needed to keep them went to him.

ESPECIALLY when your talking about players that have seen their better days and then losing players still in their prime because of it. Show me how there's a winning recipe in there somewhere.

There isn't. We're just bored, and we're tired of seeing other teams/fans have all the "fun" of free agency.

I like the way Ted does it. Breaking the bank on one player only makes sense if your team is one player (and it has to be that particular player) shy of winning it all. And we aren't. Would a premiere DT help? Sure... but what's the cost/benefit ratio if he's not the only piece missing from our puzzle?

Yeah, the big names get gobbled up immediately, but they all get way, way overpaid, too. Really... how many FAs have been worth the money they've been paid in the last 5 years? Bet I could count them without taking my shoes off - and Woodson and Pickett would be two of them.

The sad truth is that free agency is almost as big a crapshoot as the draft. Maybe even more so. Free agents are usually on their second or third (or fourth) contract. At least if a draft pick doesn't pay dividends right away you can play the waiting game and hope he comes around. If Haynesworth doesn't make a difference in Washington (and I don't think he will), the 'Skins have wasted at least $41M.

What 69 said - plus, some folks (plenty of them - I'm not singling anyone out) just don't like Thompson, so they're bound to come out of the woodwork this time of year to give us all a helping of "See what I told you? We never sign anyone! OMG!".

Overall, I think Ted has done a very good job (to this point; as silly as it is to have a personal beef w/ the guy, it's at least as silly to annoint him as perfect - it's a show-me industry, and dude needs to produce every year). But I'd be lying if I said that this year, with this situation (OL needing help, D needing a transfusion of talent suited for a new scheme), I'll be just fine with no real action in FA. That would be a statement to me, that the powers that be are forever in a rebuilding mode, and I admit that it would bug me, big time.

I don't want Haynesworth or Peppers or any other wildly over-priced players, but I don't want Frank Walker, either. There are a lot of good, solid players out there to be had, and I really hope Thompson gets at least a few of them.

2 of the guys you mentioned i'm not worried about (jennings and collins) with the uncapped year these players can't goto free agency. They will become restricted free agents. So who cares i'm tired of planning for the damn future i want to start winning now.
