Eagles | One-year deal offered to Dawkins
Fri, 27 Feb 2009 09:04:07 -0800

Updating previous reports, MyFOXPhilly.com reports the Philadelphia Eagles have offered what is believed to be a one-year deal to free-agent S Brian Dawkins.

WTF Teddy he would be a great addition and plays mean and brings an attitude to the field.

Ravens | Lewis will not return?
Fri, 27 Feb 2009 09:04:15 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports sources close to unrestricted free-agent LB Ray Lewis (Ravens) said he will not re-sign with the Baltimore Ravens.

Pull the damn trigger Teddy after all it's not your damn money to use on your vacations.

Add both of those guys and our defense would be solid just like that and have the leadership you want.

Seriously?

Put things into a little perspective. Ray Lewis wants to play for the Cowboys or Jets. He'll ignore any calls the Packers get and plus he's an inside linebacker in the 3-4 where GB already has Hawk and Barnett starting and those three players cannot play on the outside and rush the passer. Lewis isn't a good fit.

I would actually go after Brian Dawkins, but like another poster said he probably wants to end his career in Philadelphia.

Anyways Thompson isn't going to do much of anything for at least week more than likely.

I get a kick out of how people complain about every other player that gets signed by other teams but when Ted Thompson gets deals done with Jennings, Kampman, Collins, Pickett and SEVERAL guys whose contracts come up next year as well will be earmarked as "doing his job."

We sign a Ray Lewis type contract and you can count on about three good players we will lose in the next year because the money needed to keep them went to him.

ESPECIALLY when your talking about players that have seen their better days and then losing players still in their prime because of it. Show me how there's a winning recipe in there somewhere.

2 of the guys you mentioned i'm not worried about (jennings and collins) with the uncapped year these players can't goto free agency. They will become restricted free agents. So who cares i'm tired of planning for the damn future i want to start winning now.

So in other words you have no plan other than put off what's on the table greatly increasing the cost to do business with these players later or decreasing any chance of retaining them all together to capture high-end FA's now.

I'm sure all Ted Thompson haters would love to see him put himself in that trap.

I think a guy like Canty would make sense considering Green Bay probably can't rely much on Justin Harrell and Johnny Jolly proved last off season he was unreliable.

To me that's a player if not signed should generate the WTF Ted Thompson type of posts.

Some other guys I personally may take a look at

Matt Birk
Jermaine Phillips
Chris Kemoeatu if you can't get Birk.
Khalif Barnes although he may get paid more than his value.

you must not understand that Jennings and Collins technically are under contract thru the 2011 season if you knew the new rule for the uncapped season. I'm looking it up so maybe you will understand. Also i keep saying everyone saying we need to resign AK hell we don't even know how he will play in the 3-4 so why jump the gun?

Here is the rule change:

One of the biggest adjustments is that unrestricted free agency changes from four accrued seasons to six.

That means that players who would've finished up their fourth NFL seasons in 2009 -- and would've looked forward to unrestricted free agency in 2010 under the old rules -- now have to wait two more years. That will greatly reduce the amount of unrestricted free agents available next season, so teams can't afford to make mistakes this time around.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be šŸ™‚ (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Adam Schefter of NFL Network had something interesting on his blog regarding team cap room.

MOST
Tampa Bay $61 million
Kansas City $57 million
Philadelphia $48 million
Denver $37 million
Green Bay $34 million

LEAST
Carolina $1.9 million
New England $3.2 million
Indianapolis $6.6 million
Pittsburgh $7.4 million
Washington $8.1 million

Washington is in the bottom 5, yet they somehow retained DeAngelo Hall to a 50M contract and nabbed Albert Haynesworth to a 100M contract. This is why I find free agency and the cap so hard to understand.
