39% is well more than 1/3. You do know this, right?

And that doesn't count:
1. State income taxes. Probably average about 8-12%.
2. State sales taxes. Over 5% for most states.
3. City sales taxes. (For anyone who lives or buys in big cities and wants the privilege of paying for sports stadiums and urban crime.)
4. Real estate taxes. Effectively about 50-75% or more of the annual "unrealized capital gain" on real estate.

Add it up, and the tax burden of the average American is more than 1/2 of his annual income/increase in wealth.

Frankly, I'm surprised that the 1%ers (or anyone else) risk as much of their their wealth on innovation and other entrepreneurial activity with the hope of increasing productivity and output when their real reward is only 30-50% of any realized income.
