Ted Thompson did himself a favor when he signed free-agent tight end Jared Cook.

OT, ILB or OLB, whichever falls to us.

And I mean that in each of the top three rounds. Oh yeah, we also need a NT.

If Jared Cook meshes well, the Packers will extend him two or three years. The signing only changes the fans perception of a draft need. The Packers draft for the future and nearly always go after the best player available on their board. Which also has an algorithm used for position strength/weakness. If Packers have several with the same grade they take the player who is going to fill a position of perceived need.

Am I F'd up or would it be REALLY nice just to get a dominant, ass kicking OLB instead of someone inside? I guess we do need a guy who can cover.

Most tend to forget that Janis came from a small school that simply said "run straight and fast" and now he has to run precise routes.

Free Agency is for now fixes and there just simply were not any linebackers worth their salary demands.
Draft is for the following year(s).

Category 1 Rounds 1-3: DL, OLB, ILB

Category 2 Round 4-5: TE, OT, CB

Category 3 Round 6-7: Punter, RB, WR, OG

That's the rough breakdown I'm hoping to see. Maybe some of the position groups drift up/down a category but I'm guessing the Packers go for defense a lot the first few rounds.

I've been a little different. I didn't see TE or ILB as our big needs. Don't get me wrong, improvement at either would be nice but not what I think the team really needs. I want the trenches. Look at the teams that have really given us trouble, what do the have. A pass rush. Whether DE,DT,OLB as long as it creates pass rush press on opposing QBs.

Offensively protect Rodgers and make lanes for Lacy and Stark and that happens up front. and if we don't look at that now it will be an even bigger need next year. I don't see us paying both Sitton and Lang and Bahktiari isn't good enough for the salary he will probably be offered so we need to go after these positions now.

We have ILBers who can play the run, what we need is coverage and as we go into our coverage packages, expect ILBers to be pulled in favor or DBs.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

The issue being if we draft another TE what do we do with Perillo and Backman? Do we carry 5 TEs and 1 FB?

Jared Cook is 28 or 29 and if he does great things FOR the offense, he will be inked. Also, the 2017 cap is projected to increase almost $10 million.

Either way, it's time to get a bookend or ditch Dom. Shit or get off the pot.
