I contacted her school to inform them of what was going on and the school nurse called me and when I told her the Doctor who is reviewing the EEG results is apparently highly regarded. She responded as if she just won the lottery she was so excited we are using this doctor.

The results show Rebecca is as the doctor says "healthy little monkey". She is not epileptic, but has to absolutely avoid flashing lights because she has photo convulsive seizure disorder. All in all, everything is okay.

The doctor gave us some drops to place inside her cheek if she has another seizure. The troubling part was when he said most seizures are over between 3 - 5 minutes and that I should wait until 3 minutes before giving her the magic drops inside her cheek that stop my little girl from convulsing and bring her back to normal. Okay, he didn't word it like that, but that's what I heard. The mere thought of made my face flush so quickly Rebecca and the doctor both knew I had an issue with this. What wouldn't? I mean, what parent is going to be 'ok' with knowing they can instantly make their child better and are fine waiting three minutes? I dunno, but he's the doctor and one of the most respected in the country in his field. So I defer judgment to him.

Kevin, my questions would be- are there possible side effects of the medicine that makes it better if its not used too much?
Or maybe waiting allows the body to fight off the attack, making it better long term?
For example, my migraine medicine (imitrex) helps, but can cause problems with the heart. So if I can stand to ride it out without using it, it's better for me. So I only use it when it's so bad I can't stand it.
Maybe allowing her body a chance to fight it first is better for her.

The only side effect to the medicine is the recipient gets very sleepy. The doctor says when a seizure lasts 30 minutes or longer, that's when it can do damage.

I will wait the 3 minutes, but that don't mean it's going to be easy and we're all hoping it never comes to that.

I admit....it would be VERY hard for me to wait, too.
Hang in there, Kevin!
We are praying/pulling for you!

Kevin-

Just saw this. Sorry to hear about Rebecca's seizure.

My wife has epilepsy. She's on medication that takes care of the seizures and has no restrictions on driving, etc. Basically, she lives a normal life.

My wife has had two seizures when I was present. The Dr's recommendation to let the seizure run it's course unless it starts going too long is consistent with advice my wife's Dr gave us.

First time my wife had a seizure, I called the hospital which sent an ambulance, etc. Normally, she is not aware at all during the seizure. No matter how bad it looked like to me, she was out of it. But the ambulance guys kept trying to wake her up out of the seizure, and she said it made her aware of what was going on and it was awful. She requested I not call them in the future.

I discussed it with her neurologist, and he said just let her sleep it off afterward, only call the ambulance if the seizure itself was causing physical harm (biting tongue, etc). I did that the second time, and it was much easier on my wife.

She should have some kind of a plan if she is driving and approaches emergency vehicles. (I know she is still too young to worry about that today.)

dfosterf (13-Aug) : a lower back injury
dfosterf (13-Aug) : Doubs says he's "fine" after injury scare. Some reported it as z
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

Zero2Cool (12-Aug) : zero help, dominated. preseason

Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : If healthy after, then thats all I care. Well, no drops would be nice
wpr (10-Aug) : I made it through the 1st Q.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Just gotta figure out how.

Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : Sooooooo many penalties
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : It may only be preseason, but this game is a trip to the dentist

Mucky Tundra (9-Aug) : THE GREEN BAY PACKERS ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL TONIGHT!!!!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
