The players that Ted Thompson put on the roster and the players that Mike McCarthy put on the field came within 1 play of advancing in the playoffs each of the last 3 years. One of those would have put them in the SB. I'm not sure what more the coach or GM could have done on each of those plays. That's three plays in three years for a minimum of three more playoff wins. If we get those three plays this conversation is much much shorter if it happens at all.

Personally I think the sources McGinn refers to are the voices in his head. It is all bullshit speculation by people who don't have the first clue to what moves were possible to be made, which ones Ted or Mike may or may not have wanted. I'm sure there is some disagreement between them as there is in most every boss employee relationship.

This year I'd like to see either the TE or ILB position addressed in free agency before we go to the draft, or else it is just another draft and develop year.

Getting back to topic:

Who did MM want and Ted Thompson said no?!?!?! BTW, it wasn’t Mason Foster.

It is easy to see this is an agenda driven hack piece, whose source is an Uffda-like fan; because no one connected with an NFL program would ever think like this. MM, for example, would NEVER belly ache, like this article and some fans, about some theoretical random free agent player that he did not get. If MM is not happy, it is because of a very specific player that he thinks would have improved the team and Ted Thompson said “NO.”

How could MM complain about a process in which his input drives most NFL personnel decisions? Ted Thompson didn’t just say, “herrrrrre’s Peppers.” Ted Thompson sought the staff’s opinion of Peppers and discussed the ramifications of Peppers signing to others players who’d be cut or not extended or not signed. Surely, MM signed off and then it was up to Ted Thompson to finalize the deal.

MM knows it’s a matter of choice, not want. You cant just want Dez Bryant. Unlike McSpinn and uffda, MM knows if you sign Dez, then there will be other ramifications. Let’s assume, MM and Ted Thompson agreed to go get Dez and Ted Thompson says okay; then Dallas tags him. MM would not be mad about that; he may have decided that signing Dez is worth losing Cobb and Bulaga, but MM knows it’ll kill the team if you sign Dez and lose Cobb, Bulaga and 2 1st rounders.

Some guy probably made a sarcastic remark mimicking the loud-mouthed vocal minority and Bob McSpinn put that in his falsified notes for the fact check [See Stephen Glass-New Yorker]. We know the story is bull dung because it makes no sense: MM does not live in a fantasy dream world like McSpinn and the vocal minority, who flappy-lippy-dippy all day in a generalized incoherent rage. These loud-mouths NEVER suggest viable rational solutions. There argument is this: Ted Thompson should pursue free agents and trades to make the team better. Well duh, no shyte sherlocks!

McSpinn realized his lame story void of sources needed the support of an actual failure that MM might be mad about, so he FABRICATES the failure by citing Mason Foster as the mythic warrior god HOF Nitschke-like savior who undoubtedly would have tackled Fitz for a 10 yard loss in overtime, stripped the ball and scored. Foster put out 4 years of tape for all to see, TB didn’t want him, so he went to camp w/ Bears on min. deal, who cut him before start of season and then all other 31 GMs passed. Washington began the year with mediocrity at ILB with Robinson and Riley starting and Compton [’13 UDFA] and another UDFA backing up. Foster was signed only after injuries to Riley and Robinson and only played because Riley was inactive and Robinson after missing 5 weeks in the middle of the season, kept getting injured as he was trying to work himself back into game shape. Foster = Jumal Rolle, got a chance to play, didn’t play all that well, but got a few noticeable stats like a few TFLs v. GB. The loudmouths now want to blabberize ‘til our ears fall about Ted Thompson being an idiot; but like Rolle, Foster is just a fringe player who only gets a chance to play due to MULTIPE injuries at his position.

and notice how McSpinn shut his yap about the Ted Thompson failing to get the great Vernon Davis. He was a real difference maker in his 10 snaps, 1 target, 0 catch and 2 missed block performance yesterday.

But let's be real. He was ready to pull the trigger on Marshawn but the other side tried to raise the ante at the last minute. You can't have a bitch as your GM. Ted is THE MAN.

I remember one time Micheal Rodney was talking about a contract negotiation with Ted. He was like WE ALL KNOW WHO'S GOING TO BLINK FIRST IN THAT NEGOTIATION. And it was true. Ted will NOT be taken advantage of. That's a huge deal, imo.

Arguably, Ted was going to trade for RAndy Moss too.

Let's also not forget the players lost to injury. Ted can't just find one Nick Collins. He then has to turn around and replace him with Dix. Ted pulls Lacy AND Franklin out of the draft. ONly gets to keep one. Now he has to replace Finley too. Let's get real man.

Ted has to draft twice as many stars as most other teams, just to keep them on the field.

The last several weeks we have heard constant complaints of how "we should do it like the New England Patriots".....where are those complainers NOW???
Oh yeah.....they are still here, but choose to forget how they kept saying how great the Patriots are, and how much the Packers suck.
Guess who will be watching the Super Bowl on TV, just like the Packers will?
Yup....the "almighty Patriots".

The Patriots made it one step farther then the Packers did, but they STILL are "losers", right???

I would've lost the way the Patriots lost to Denver over the way the Packers lost to Arizona any day.

So, the Pats losing because they couldn't convert a 2 point play after a TD is better then messing up a coverage in overtime?
How is it really different?
Both the Pats and the Packers are on the outside looking in on Super Bowl 50.
I really don't see enough difference in the result.
Would you have rather had the Packers blown
out by Arizona?
With all the players lost, they fought their collective butts off and almost pulled off the upset.
I'm proud of the way our guys fought.
That's just me, I guess.
I'm much more upset over last season's NFC title loss.
THAT was something to be mad about. That was a meltdown.

Cheesey the sad part is after watching the cards game we should have really blown out them. But once again we have our redzone woes and missed chances by our offense. The cards weren't really that good after seeing them get blown out by the Seahawks and then barely beating us and then getting embarrassed by the Panthers. But back on topic MM won't be fed up at Ted Thompson just like AR won't be upset with Ted Thompson because they are joined at the hip. We will be a 500 team coming up for the next few years and then below 500 at the end of Rodgers career. I would like to see what Hudley has and maybe in 2 years Ted Thompson does the Favre fiasco pt2 and trades off Rodgers.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

The 2015 Packers roster had 19 free agents which is just over 35% of the roster. The majority were not disowned by any of the other 31 teams so the Ted Thompson bashers won't acknowledge that at all.

Porforis...I think it's wrong to levy blame on Mike McCarthy when it's Ted Thompson who chose to extend him when he could've just moved on and brought a new coach in. That singular move was hailed on this board and elsewhere. We retained a guy we hired who was coordinating the 32nd (DEAD LAST) ranked offense in the NFL. We now see what kind of offense Mike McCarthy is capable of without a QB playing out of his mind. NOT VERY GOOD.

The Packers offense has never been this bad or even close with Rodgers, how was Ted supposed to know that it would regress so much under McCarthy's watch?

To make myself as clear as possible: I place blame on Thompson, McCarthy, various position coaches, Rodgers, the WR corps, injuries (Mainly Nelson and the O line), and Lacy to notable degrees for the offense's struggles this year.

As you said, it's not that I can't see the weaknesses on the roster, but I also acknowledge the benefits of hindsight analysis that.
