The Packers sucess has finally caught up, and this downfall shouldn't be suprising... but it is.

The NFL, if it does one thing well, is continuity. It also does cycles well too. For a good 10-20 years a team may do well, then 10-20 years it may do bad. Ofcourse there are variables as drafting, importances of certain positions, free agency impact these cycles. But for the most part the cycle idea is shown.

The Packers past six draft picks have been in the 20-30th. Six years of pure lower end drafting. It should make sense, in this view, why we are doing as poor as we are. We are simply less talented then other teams, right?

The way to cure this, as we know when packer land, is the "draft and develop method." The idea is that you can take lower placed players who contain potential and coach them to perform like first round draft picks. Any time this happens though it's a gamble. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it works, it is glorious. But where do you put the blame when it fails? Is it either the general manager, the coaches, or the fate of the nfl cycle?

For the past four 1st round picks, we have chosen a defensive player. Our defensive is, yes, getting better. But it isnt as good as 4 first round draft picks are worthy of.

I list, in order, the three main issues we have currently:
1. No one is getting open on the passing game
2. Our offensive line is inured and fails to pass protect
3. Our secondary is still giving the big plays up

For next year we will be given a chance to fix this with, again, a low draft pick. So again I ask, who do you blame? The coaching staff for failing to develop talent? The GM for providing lack of talent in the draft? The GM for failing to make more Free Agency deals? Or just pure fate? So what do YOU do?

They obviously have a good GM, a good coach, or most importantly, both. They suceed in the draft and develop. Why don't we?

I don't buy the low pick argument.

There are always good players to take. It's just a matter of selecting them.

Example: Davante Adams

There are quite a few very good receivers in the draft that were taken after him. So is his suckage because we had a low pick? No. It's that we did not take the correct receivers.

Aside from Julius Peppers, this entire football team is made up of players who have played for the Packers and only the Packers.

If that's not draft and develop, I don't know what it is.

The lower pick argument is horseshit. We didn't even have a first round draft choice, but escaped that draft with Jordy Nelson in 2008. We draft better than most teams. None of us wanted the Packers to take Damarious Randall and Quentin Rollins with the first two picks, and while they haven't been flashy, those are two good starting-caliber corners.

Aaron Rodgers was picked 24th. Clay Matthews 26th. Josh Sitton, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Corey Linsley, Eddie Lacy... those guys aren't even first rounders.

And also, if there are good players to pick ,aybe Adams is good but he hasn't been developed right?

But I can promise you this. 6 top 10 draft picks in a row and atleast one of them will have pure talent that needs no developing.

Green_Ninja, I think it is quite improper to say our o-line is injured, and then suggest our team building approach is wrong. Injuries will often make any sound approach look bad if there are enough of them.

I wonder what the breakdown would be of the position players drafted with high picks. I'm willing to guess the majority are accounted for at the QB, D-Line, and O-line positions. I don't think we have glaring holes at any of these positions (yes, when healthy I think our o-line starters are good enough).

Before this season, was there ever a complaint that we didn't have "fast" enough WRs? I don't really remember it. And frankly, in a WCO based system that MM utilizes, you really don't need speed burners.

I don't think this is an issue of bad draft picks or wrong players picked by Ted. You can blame him for no speed at TE, but it has been pretty clear (even going back to Finley and him being asked to put on more weight) that MM prefers thicker TEs. You should still have had a team able to exploit the middle of the field by using Cobb and Montgomery. Both are quicker players, and Montgomery is "bigger" than your average slot WR.

The drafting of players to fit McCarthy's system is fine. Ted's method isn't the problem - he could stand to be more aggressive or dip into the FA pool more, but his method has still gotten us talented enough players.

Are they secrect top 5 draft picks that just havent shown yet and have an odell beckham jr hidden on our team?

Zero2Cool (44m) : post june is $7m cap hit with $17m saving
Zero2Cool (44m) : oops meant $10m cap hit
Zero2Cool (45m) : And pre june is $10m savings
Zero2Cool (45m) : Can't make him play.
dhazer (51m) : I am curious why the big need to release Jaire, we have 29 million cap space we arent spending and would only gain $6 million/ make him play
Zero2Cool (2h) : Joey Bosa signed with Bills?
dfosterf (2h) : What they are offering is a left over case of Leinies from the Chippewa Falls plant
Zero2Cool (2h) : 27, 59, 91, 129 gets you Jaire and our 3rd
Zero2Cool (2h) : they give us those five, or even first four, they can have Jaire.
Zero2Cool (2h) : 27, 59, 91, 129 and 136 are only ones worth having of theirs.
dfosterf (2h) : What they don't have is cap space, at least presently at 5.6 mil
dfosterf (2h) : Poor bastards only have 11
Zero2Cool (2h) : Ravens ain't got crap for picks.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Aaron Rodgers is choosing between Steelers and Giants. The Vikings are officially out on him, per RapSheet
dfosterf (3h) : Current cap space 29.6 million.
dfosterf (3h) : Hobbs 2025 cap hit just under 6 million. Banks 2025 cap hit just over 9 million
Mucky Tundra (9h) : beast, this is news to me! Tell me more about these, "draft picks." They seem mighty mysterious! 😉

dfosterf (12h) : Good luck to him.
Zero2Cool (13h) : Eric Stokes signs with Raiders
Martha Careful (14h) : Tyler Linderbaum C
Mucky Tundra (15h) : Cap space?
Zero2Cool (15h) : Do Ravens have anything we'd even entertain to have?
Mucky Tundra (17h) : I've seen trade ideas of Jaire going to the Ravens all offseason
beast (18h) : A probably false rumor is suggesting CB Jaire Alexander is being traded to the Ravens, again probably false
beast (18h) : Commanders might have a dominant offense the next 3 years at least
Zero2Cool (20h) : San Francisco 49ers announced they have released DL Leonard Floyd.
Mucky Tundra (21h) : Er getting traded twice like that
Mucky Tundra (21h) : Huh, LT Laremy Tunsil traded from Houston to Washington. Never heard of a top OT getting traded in his career like that
Martha Careful (11-Mar) : Minnesota Vikings cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. is returning on a three-year, $66 million deal
Zero2Cool (11-Mar) : Damn
Martha Careful (11-Mar) : Saints are re-signing DE Chase Young to a three-year, $51 million deal worth up to $57 million.
Martha Careful (11-Mar) : 49ers releasing FB Juszcyk any interest?
Zero2Cool (11-Mar) : digits of four
Zero2Cool (11-Mar) : four digits
Zero2Cool (10-Mar) : Eh, don't think so. better to split
Zero2Cool (10-Mar) : on new site, would Fan Shout and GameDay Chat show same messages?
Mucky Tundra (10-Mar) : The Hall of Fame stuff probably came from a scout as Zero said; at this point though it's hard to see them moving ZT from RT
Mucky Tundra (10-Mar) : Regarding ZT at C, Gute had said he felt C was ZTs best position after he was drafted.
Zero2Cool (10-Mar) : LB Oren Burks to sign a 2-year, $5M deal with the Bengals.
Zero2Cool (10-Mar) : Based on how it was worded at the time, probably scout.
beast (10-Mar) : I don't think the media person ever told the public the source, but Gute or LaFleur did say they thought Tom has earned his spot at OT
beast (10-Mar) : I think it was supposedly unnamed Packers source
buckeyepackfan (10-Mar) : Was that Gute or Lefleur or someone else?
buckeyepackfan (10-Mar) : Zach Tom could be a really good guard, an all pro tackle, but probably be a HOF Center. Who said that?
Zero2Cool (10-Mar) : It's March 10th. I don't think anything is done.
Martha Careful (10-Mar) : if we think CB is done, we have a poor roster
Mucky Tundra (10-Mar) : CB and OG in FA, narrows down the top of the draft board a little
Martha Careful (10-Mar) : Meh....I hope we can get Ward 49ers or Murphy Vikings
