J.C. Tretter lost his starting Center job to Corey Linsley due to injury. Tretter and the run game have been pretty good and soon Linsley will be healthy.

Who starts at Center? Does Tretter have anything to do with the improved running game or is it coincidental only?

Now that is a tough one. If I didn't have to worry about anything but C, I would probably go with Tretter. He is a little bigger bodied and has the ability to carry more weight which I like. But over all team, Linsley is more limited to C, where Tretter can backup multiple positions. I like to avoid having to shift two players because of one injury.

They always say you don't lose your job because of injury. I guess Linsley comes back, unless Tretter is doing something Linsley can't.

Starting a lesser quality (I'm not saying this is the case) center just because you want a more versatile backup in case of injury elsewhere along the line is not a smart move. Look at it this way. If you start Linsley and Lang gets hurt Tretter goes in for Lang. If you start Tretter and Lang gets hurt Tretter moves over and Linsley comes in. Same result Tretter at G Linsley at Center. Both starting quality players. Personally I don't see that much of a difference between the two. I'd start whichever one offered a better chance to stop Mack.

I'm convinced Tretter is better. Linsley suffers the Casey Hayward syndrome, in his first season he looked much better than what he really is.

JC played a terrific game against Dallas, he is not stronger but he is a lot faster than Corey and that means he can pull right or left really quickly which opens a lot of options in the running game.

They are both good players. It depends how healthy Linsley is. If he is not close enough to 90% then I see keep JC in there for continuity. And I 90% because I realize now more than ever that no one is 100% in this league.

Positives for both players,

J.C. can really get to the second level and open up blocks downfield and can turn on a dime, but he can really get out muscled by the bull rush of some of those bigger interior guys.

Linsley has better form and more power and can hold his own in the trenches, he's also got a bit of that mean streak in him that I haven't seen from Tretter yet, but he doesn't have that athletic ability to get to the second level.

At this point I think I'd stick with Tretter and let Linsley's ankle heal up completely, then we can reassess when both are healthy.

If they start Tretter at C and he is forced to move somewhere else I agree that move could be a bit disruptive but no more than if he comes of the bench. I don't think Linsley coming in at center would be a big deal at all.

Like I said you go with the one who you think gives you the better player at the position.

Does it matter? Whoever starts will get hurt and replaced by the other with the way injuries on the line have been this season.
