I've said often Javon Walker was the last great wide receiver talent the Packers have had and if you go back further, Sterling Sharpe. That being said, I've read Jordy Nelson is not a number one wide receiver.

That has me thinking, what is a number one wide receiver?

Last season just six wide receivers had more RECEPTIONS than Jordy Nelson.
Last season just three wide receivers had more RECEIVING YARDS than Jordy Nelson.
Last season just one wide receiver had more TOUCHDOWNS than Jordy Nelson.
Last season just nine wide receivers had more 20+ YARDS RECEPTIONS than Jordy Nelson.
Last season just two wide receivers had more 1st DOWN RECEPTIONS than Jordy Nelson.

If you were to put Jordy Nelson on any other NFL team, he would be no worse than the 2 on nearly every team except the Falcons.
• Lions have Calvin Johnson
  • Steelers have Antonio Brown
  • Giants have Odell Beckham Jr
  • Falcons have Julio Jones and Roddy White
  • Broncos have Demaryius Thomas
  • Bengals have A.J. Green
  • Cowboys have Dez Bryant
  • Cardinals have Larry Fitzgerald
  • Colts have T.Y. Hilton
• There you have it folks, Jordy Nelson is indeed a number one receiver. Deal with it!!

Oh and for those who will ask about Percy Harvin, sure he has talent coming out of his ears. Big deal!! A damn bowl in a China Shop lasts longer with a Bull hopped up on Red Bull than Harvin does in the NFL. Talent doesn't mean squat if you can't produce on the field and if you're always hurt, you're useless.

He was Aaron Rodgers' number 1 receiver. That is all I care about. The arguing going on about this is making my head spin.

Of course, Packers fans are going to hype their players much more than they actually are...they're fans. Jordy is an excellent WR and spent SEVEN years with Rodgers. We have the league MVP...he is going to get people numbers just like Troy Polamalu said after the SB loss. If the Packers struggle the casual fan is going to cry and scream that Jordy's greatness can't be replaced. The truth will be that the inexperienced youth that has as much talent, if not more, than Jordy will be the reason. Give our young guys 7 years with Rodgers and see what they can do.

If it makes you happy...Sheryl Crow call 87 a #1. He isn't and wouldn't be on the Cowboys...or Giants...or Broncos...the list goes on and on. He would likely have the exact same fate as Greg Jennings were he to leave us for another team. Greg was as good if not better than Jordy but the cry now will be stats! Stats! Look at the stats. When they were both here Greg was the better player and received a bigger contract offer to stay than Jordy got down the road.

How do you reconcile the above? How?

Anybody that doesn't realize Jordy is a number one receiver is a football idiot.

It doesn't really make any difference what you call them - just like there used to be a bigger distinction between free safety and strong safety - and even less with WRs.

Of that list of 9 in the original post, it's pretty subjective, but I would argue that only Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, Larry Fitzgerald (a few years ago), and maybe A.J. Green stand out as true # 1 receivers - the kind of gamebreakers that basically outshine the QB throwing to them.

Jordy would be lumped in with the rest of that group on a level just slightly lower - not quite as much ability to dominate, and mainly great because of the QB throwing to them.

But who really cares in a TEAM game?

You guys would always say you trust the judgement of Ted Thompson more than any idiot on a Packers forum. Well, here's your chance to not be a hypocrite. If you truly trust TT's judgement, and not your own, you have to go against with all your sentimentality and realize the fact is Jordy didn't get paid like a #1 WR because he isn't. Spin until you're dizzy and throw up but there is a reason Jordy and Randall are paid about the same and Greg Jennings was offered more prior to both their deals. Ted is so awesome doesn't really apply once you realize Greg Jennings was offered more money than Jordy or RC18. I'm sure you don't think Greg Jennings is so awesome anymore. Why is it that he is no longer awesome in your eyes? Think. It's really not that hard.
