On the first play of the 11-on-11 competitive 2-minute drill to end practice, Hundley eluded the rush, rolled to his right and went deep to Pinkard, who got behind rookie cornerback Quinten Rollins for a 57-yard gain down to the 8-yard line. Beating Rollins is no small accomplishment, as he showed during the opener Thursday night against the Patriots.

Pinkard and Hundley then hooked up again on an 8-yard touchdown on the following play, ending the in-shells practice for the day.

Kid can play, imo.

Thumbs down: Packers coach Mike McCarthy felt the team had too many dropped passes against the Patriots, and midway through practice, there were a couple of them in quick succession, one by Randall Cobb on a deep corner route and one by Jeff Janis across the middle.

Check this out. I REALLY liked that screen we ran the other day. Not only the fact that they called it, but that they EXECUTED it If they keep Neal, I think he's got the potential to excel on those plays.

Play of the day: The play required a bit of a double-take given how effortlessly and naturally running back Raijon Neal made the catch – it looked like the kind of over-the-shoulder grab that’s routinely made by a wide receiver, not a running back. But it was indeed Neal who got behind safety Sean Richardson to snare a right-on-the-money Matt Blanchard deep ball for a 35-yard gain. Neal lined up as a receiver in a three-receiver bunched set on the play, and if he looked comfortable, there was a reason: He spent his sophomore year at Tennessee playing receiver as he waited for an opportunity at running back.

We haven't really had a 3rd down back in a while. That would be a good addition to the offense.

It also slows down the no-huddle, which is precisely what he does not want.

That being said, we've had a 3rd down back for quite a few years now and he goes by the name of John Kuhn.

Pinkard was my favorite UDFA WR from the get go... hoping he makes a big push to make the roster here at the end. Guy is really good with it in his hands. Haven't seen that yet from him...he's too busy getting behind people. He gets separation as well as anyone on the roster even the speedy Janis.

Someone please forward the Neal blurb to the kid at Packerstalk.com who said Crockett is more varied and natural in the pass game. Neal can run it and catch it. Loved that guy last year...I see no reason for him not to make it. Would take him over Starks as long as he's not a nightmare in pass blocking.

Good to hear Hundley is looking well. Bye bye, Blanchard. If Hundley doesn't watch himself he might send Scotty T. packing.

I'm not saying he will banish Scotty... I'm saying that's probably the desired outcome, though. I'm sure the org would've loved for Hundley to come in and look like an heir apparent from the get go so they would have a competent backup and so they would only need two roster spots for the position.

Hundley/Pinkard is a nice combo. Hope they can keep that going in practice all season long. I'd be stunned if Pinkard hasn't at least secured a PS spot.

That said, still a little early. It's been a week of him looking good in practice - hard to call him a viable back up (yet) but either way, I feel a hell of a lot better about the QB roster than 2 years ago.

So if some other RB shows enough different skill sets (like Franklin did), then it's possible they could use that RB in drives in a different way and be a 3 down back in that different mini scheme. Of course I'm not sure any of the other RBs have quite shown that... meaning having that quickness, speed, running skills, route running and pass catching skills of Franklin. Reports have suggested Neal has stood out in the route running and pass catching but haven't heard nearly as much about his RB skills behind the line.
