I've read/heard a lot about how this performance is lessened because the Packers kept the Pats in check. First, they gave up 21 points to the Pats and the Seahawks just gave up 20 points in 3 games to 3 playoff contenders. They gave up 400+ yards to the Eagles while the Seahawks gave up 150.
Nerd is right, though, and I feel "smoke and mirrors" is a very appropriate term. In general, this D has succeeded thanks to some nifty schemes that led to short-term success like Nascar, and they've been the beneficiaries of big leads from the O shrinking the opponent's playbook. They still do not have the feel of a D that can impose their will and stop you whenever they choose.
