I think Vic has this one spot on. Excellent play call and if Julius Peppers catches it, those whining about it, would be praising it. Hindsight makes us all brilliant lol

Even if the play worked, even if the fans cheered, it is still the wrong call at the wrong time. Succeeding doesn't make it the right call. Bad call and poor judgement on Mike's part.

Quarless had that great catch to beat Miami. Even though he has 71 receptions in his career he was not who most people would have thrown to in a do or die situation but he had something that Peppers will never have. Experience. Aaron has thrown the ball the ball to Quarless hundreds of times in practice. With the backup QBs, Quarless has 1000s of opportunities in his professional career. I doubt Peppers had more than 10 passes thrown to him in practice. When the game was on the line he flinched just a little. He was too busy thinking about catching the ball instead of just catching it.

If they had this new toy (trick play) that they just have to show off to the neighbor kids then they should have done so on first down. That way they still had too chances if it failed. After it failed on second down they only had one more chance to get the TD. I would have preferred that they tried again on 4th down than take the FG. If you have a crappy defense you can't settle for FGs.

If you want to use the "players not plays" line then you have to have the players who can make the plays otherwise why can you or I or anyone else go out there and try and make the catch too? Why not line up other extremely talented athletes from other sports? You have to have the guys out there who can actually make the plays not just any old schmoe.

It's not a complicated route, nor a deep route. You run 5-10 yards, curl inside and catch the ball. The play was called at the right time with the right personnel. I'm willing to bet 9 times out of 10 Julius makes that catch.

Out of the 60 minutes of the game, its hard to believe fans can be in an uproar over such good called play.

I prefer they have Rodgers under center, play-action while he rolls out when they get inside the 12 yard line. This allows Rodgers to use his feet and his arm as weapons and the defense has to respect both. And I'd prefer it always thrown to Randall Cobb for this season. [grin1]

That being said, the Peppers play was a good play call.

Now when Peppers comes in on offense the other teams will think "its going to Peppers" and it probably never will again. Plays like this work at surprising the defense only when you show it as a potential for use far more than you actually use it.

I agree with you on everything else though except I make it 8 out of 10.

Frankly I thought the throw was rushed and awkward, ill timed. This was after the hammy wasn't it? Seemed like he wasn't able to step up or was forcing it out early.
